'Invest in a Capital Steel Buildings' 'and protect your valuable assets'
Capital Steel Buildings sophisticated software can cope with most areas within the UK and this is why, when you ask for a quote, we need to know you post code where your new steel building will be erected. With this post code, in combination with the wind speed charts for the UK, from the Building Research Establishment, and your altitude above sea level, from the Ordnance Survey maps, our software is able to produce a superb steel building which takes into account the wind loadings and stresses in your area and increases the size of the steel work accordingly.
Steel Buildings designed specifically to your area !!
This is why the price for the same size building can vary from one part of the country to the other. You need to be aware of this when buying your building as some companies do not have the resources, which includes Strathclyde University which Capital Steel have, and will produce a building which may not be suitable in your part of the country or meet local building control - is it worth the risk ?
However, although we supply plans free for planning applications, because of the individual nature of each building and it's location the calculations and stress loading for each building would have to be done by an independent structural engineer who will calculate everything that is required for building control. There is a cost for this, if you require this, (as this is not always required by your council) which varies from £225 plus vat up to £425 plus vat for building up to £30,000 in value.
What is supplied by the Structural Engineers ?
What the engineers would supply after their detailed calculations of the building would be certificates confirming your steel building meets all building control requirements and a massive wad of pages which are normally at least 40 pages long. On the larger steel structures there is room for negotiation after you order the building.
If you don't need building control approval you would not need to do this, although it is recommended on steel buildings over 30 square metres and where you don't have normal soil conditions (which is defined as having an allowable bearing capacity of at least 50kN/m² and basically any soil other then peat or other organic soil, made up ground or fill material, soft or very soft alluvial silt & clay or soils subject to significant volume change as a result of changes in moisture content, i.e shrinkable clays.)
The standard calculation pack includes an assessment of all the principle structural framing members in the building such as:-
- Primary columns and rafters
- All connections
- Eaves and Apex struts
- Fly bracing (stays will stabilise the primary rafters and columns)
- Gable posts
- Purlins and side rails
- Bracing and cladding
