A snowy New Hampshire town has decided to built a giant new shed in which to store salt and sand so it can keep its roads open during the winter.
The highway department in the town of Plaistow wants to spend $110,000 (£65,400) on the new metal shed, the Eagle Tribune reports today (November 18th).
Town manager Sean Fitzgerald told the newspaper that the currect lack of storage facilities was hindering the department´s work[.]
"They can only buy a small quantity of salt and sand because they can´t store it properly," he was reported as saying.
New Hampshire receives between 60 inches and 100 inches of snow each winter, and applying salt to road surfaces reduces the point at which water freezes while sand is used for increased friction.
The town´s budget committee will decide shortly on whether to purchase the new shed.
A plan to build 29 light industrial buildings in Blandford Forum, Dorset was approved by local councillors this week.
