Liverpool Council is searching for a partner to manage the hall and helping to keep it open and, thus, increase visitors to this loved location. It's hoped that this bold move could reduce the running costs by up to £1m per year.
And local people will have a say in the final winner after the entries are assessed by representatives of the Friend of Croxteth Park, Croxeth Hall Volunteers and the West Derby Society.
The hall which had been the stately home of the Earls of Sefton and Molyneux family for over 500 years but has been in public ownership since 1972. In recent years the park has been promoted as a setting for films, exhibitions, concerts and has featured many weddings.
Councillor Peter Mitchell stated that 'The preservation of Croxteth Hall and Park with free public access is their main aim and by finding a partner would be a 'win-win' situation for the park'. The estate has been enjoyed by millions for many generations and is a well loved asset for the area and this is why the public's view is so important.
Many parts of this the hall and park dates back to Tudor and Elizabethan times and are in urgent need of repairs and upgrades and is seen as one of Liverpool's finest 'crown jewels' and should be protected and it's hoped that this initiative will help protect the future of Croxteth Hall.
The 500 acre site attracts 600,000 visitors each year and currently features an adventure playground, horse riding centre and aerial rope adventure course. Plans last year from Signature Living included adding a domed swimming pool as well as log cabins in Croxteth Hall Park. But these plans were turned downed during a consultation exercise.
These plans for the park will not affect Myerscough College's relocation to a new animal - equine centre on the site of the former ground maintenance depot. The college will retain responsibility for running the hall's walled garden and the Neighbourhood Services Company look after Home Farm.
