Recently I was asked on our Support board (where anyone can ask questions before buying) what is the difference between our Diamond Garden Sheds and our Humber Garden Sheds. The following gives the answer to that question.:-
The most important thing is that both ranges are made from solid T&G shiplap and have sturdy 2x2 vertical framing, far thicker than you find on the cheaper buildings available. This is important as the frame supports the cladding and the roof. Also, the fact that the shiplap on these garden sheds are tongue and grooved means they will stand the test of time better and be more secure against break-ins (on the cheap overlap sheds the boards can just be prised off whereas the T&G boards effectively make each side one complete wall of timber). The floor and roof on the Humber are made from sturdy T&G timber boards. On the Diamond range they use timber T&G boards on all their roofs and on the floors, except if the shed is 8ft x 8ft and over. On these Diamond uses the superb moisture resistant Caber board, grade v313. (this is similar to what is used in a brand new house in the kitchen or bathroom). This is also standard on all the Diamond Premium range of Heavy Duty Sectional Workshops.
Neither of them use chipboard, plywood, sterling board or wafer board which cheap sheds are made from as none of these materials are suitable for outdoor use where they may get wet. We know this from our experience in manufacturing which we started back in 1979. Shamefully, we admit we did use chipboard, wafer board and sterling boards in our early days and quickly found by experience that these just fell to pieces when they got wet. We did have to replace several roofs and some floors back in those days (very early 80's) as we were building up our reputation as a reliable conscientious garden shed manufacturer. It goes without saying that we have steered well away from these types of materials since then and ONLY used 100% tried and tested timber materials. You will find that the cheap shed makers will describe their floors and roofs as made from 'sheet materials' rather than admit they use these fallible materials. They don't want you to know your new shed will have these on your floor and roof. Also if you look at their guarantee you will see that they exclude these sheet materials floor and roof from their guarantee.
There are superb heights on both the Humber and Diamond garden sheds, this being a very generous 5ft 10in at the eaves and go up to at least 6ft 6in. Both the Humber sheds and Diamond sheds are erected FREE of charge. Add the cost of assembly to the cheap sheds makers and you can see what a great bargain these Diamond and Humber sheds are.
The main differences are that the Diamond sheds have an opening window (or Georgian style window option) as standard whereas the windows on the Humber sheds are fixed (non-opening). On the Diamond there is a rim lock with key and handle, whereas on the Humber there is a padbolt for you to lock with your own padlock. The treatment on the Diamond is a spirit based preservative brushed on by hand, on the Humber they use a water based treatment which is sprayed on. With both it is recommended that you put a secondary coat on within 1-3 months, certainly before the following winter and then every 2-3 years.
The Diamond sheds are the better of the two but both are very good buildings. I know this from my 39 years in the shed business and are proud to be selling these buildings. It's a pleasure to know there are other good companies out there who do a good job like I used to since 1979. I have had experience with offering some of the wares offered by the cheap shed makers and quickly found to my cost and worry that if I wanted a stress free life without customers ringing me up complaining about deliveries not turning up, split wood and leaky roofs then I needed to stop selling those cheap sheds. Which I did usually within a matter of months when it became apparent that cheap means exactly that.
Having been in the timber shed business since 1979, 20 years manufacturing, I KNOW what is needed for a long lasting shed and we will not deal with any shed companies who do not meet our high standards. We are very happy with all the companies which we deal with.
