The British garden is well loved as being a haven away from the house where the owners can share with their family and friends. This being 'their' piece of our green and pleasant land. Usually with flower beds, garden shrubs and bushes it also normally holds a garden building of some kind such as a summerhouse, greenhouse, the ever popular garden shed or even a log cabin workshop where the gardening tools and lawnmower are stored away.
Whilst the garden lawn is very hard wearing it does need looking after. With regular cutting of the lawn, certainly from April and May onwards, this helps to keep the garden lawn looking great. It is important, however, to take care of the lawn mower, whether it an electric, petrol, battery or a 'push pull' type, as this will pay off in the long run making it easy to use.
This is why before putting the lawn mower back in your garden shed that you do remove all grass cuttings and clean it. This doesn't has to take too long if you use a small stiff brush as this will enable you to remove the cuttings. A hose down will then help to wash away any remaining cuttings and any mud. Ideally before putting into the garden shed allow your lawnmower to dry naturally.
The other thing to do is to feed your lawnmower at different times of the year, applying weed killer as required as well as controlling moss. This can be a chore but to get the best from your lawn needs to be done. You do need to be very careful with all these chemicals and they should be kept locked up in your garden shed away from children. If you don't have a garden shed then 1st Choice Leisure Buildings will be able to help with a new one or even a log cabin workshop if you want to 'push the boat out'.
Garden lovers may have noticed another annual problem which is chafer grubs. These can cause brown patches on the garden lawn and is normally caused by the chafer beetle's young. A garden care company, Bayer Garden, has reported there has been a 60% increase in sales of their product, Provado Grub Kille, designed for the garden to kill this garden lawn pest. Again this treatment should be stored safely away from children and locked up in your shed or garage.
Bayer Garden's consumer advisor, Anita Dent, said that they have been inundated with calls about these brown patches on the lawn and what advice could they offer. She said that gardeners wanted to know the cause of this problem and what they could about it.
She said that it is likely to be the Chafer Grub which is responsible for the damage and that gardeners need to prepare battle plans in the early Spring to combat this. Their advice is to use the lawn grub killer in May and June every year to prevent these brown patches appearing. She also stresses the importance of keeping these treatments locked safely away in garden sheds or out houses.
The brown patches which appear is caused by the chafer grubs which feed on the roots in the lawn. Prevalent during spring and summer this causes the brown patches on the lawn. To make matters worse predators try to get at the grubs in the garden lawn causing damage to it. The other option is to roll the lawn in spring which crushes these unwanted bugs. However, not many gardeners have a roller sitting by in their garden shed.
Another option to save your time and effort is to engage one of the many garden lawn care companies which can be found on the web. These companies will come round at the correct time of the year to take whatever action is required. This is what I do so all the chemicals and weed killers I used to have in my garden shed has been safely disposed off. I know my grand son and grand daughter can come round in safety.
