Men and women are very different creatures, which is not a very surprising statement. Women love to shop, they can walk around for hours - in and out of shops with very little respite and they enjoy this - unbelievable. Men on the other hand are the more sensible of the species as they try to get out of this mad hobby of shopping and head down to their garden shed or man cave as it is often called. Women would want a summer house with a veranda - because it looks prettier.
The appeal of the garden shed is the comfort and peace which it gives to its owner. Also, it can be shared with other like minded friends (usually men) and can be the place to follow the owner's hobby. This shed will go on like this without complaining, it will always be there, provided you look after it, and will provide a little bit of this country which belongs to them (women permitting).
Shopping on the hard hand is hard work, you have to get in the car and drive to some concrete monstrosity of a car park, which could be said to resemble a massive garden shed from outside, and pay an absolute fortune to park there. From there you have to traipse through the massive shopping centres - in and out of the shops - until you find something which meets the latest 'must have item'.
These ladies then spend a fortune on these overpriced items because they come in a designer label carrier bag and will be taken home. Most likely they will see the light of day once and then will go to the back of the cupboard so that these shoppers can go out again and buy some more expensive 'must have' items. How many handbags and pair of shoes do these ladies need? Men don't need handbags, well some might, and a couple of pair of shoes are more than enough for them which proves they are surely the more intelligent species.
You don't find men trying to get in on the ladies act of shopping so why are they trying to get into our domain, the garden shed. I can tell you why. They have given it some thought and have decided that having a shed of their own will give them some space for their hobbies and also a haven away from their duties within the home. They appreciate that the men have got it right so why should they miss out.
They believe they are the more intelligent species and by combining their shopping expeditions with the added storage space of the garden shed they can buy even more shoes and handbags. They will have space to have them all catalogued and ready to go when they go out for their next trip. Clearly something should be done about this.
The only time men may be interested in shopping is when there is a new garden shed which needs buying. That is far more interesting than shoes and handbags. It serves a practical purpose and fulfils a natural urge which all men have. This probably goes back to the stone age when men could stand around talking about the size of their cave. I would say that the modern day garden shed is the nearest you can get which fulfils this primitive urge. Maybe 1st Choice Leisure Buildings should introduce a range of summerhouse based on a cave. I'm sure it would be a success.
The reason for this blog is an article in the Daily Mirror which states that men get fed up with shopping after 26 minutes, which to me seems outstanding. How can anyone be at the shops for that long. This article also said that men can spend up to 8 hours a day in their garden shed to get away from their other halves which I can believe. Not that they are driving us away but we are doing them a favour by retreating to the shed as this gives them time to cook the tea. (But don't tell them I said that)
