An art studio has been created from a listed building which was being used as a garden shed. The transformation of the building at Chalkwell Hall in Essex has created a stunning studio and was opened by Jarvis Cocker, Pulp front man – now solo artist it was reported by the local newspaper, the Southend Standard. It took Rangeit over two years to make the transformation of this Georgian building which is grade 2 listed.
Wind turbines, solar thermal tubes. LED lighting are among some of the new features. Metal, the Arts organisation was the driving force behind the project and founder Jude Kelly told the newspaper that she had seen the potential early on. When she came to Chalkwell Hall three years ago and opened the doors of Chalkwell Hall she saw the building was stored with gardening tools as the gardeners were using this as a useful garden shed.
She went on to say that these old buildings can be made not only beautiful and fit for purpose but can be emblems for the future. Derek Jarvis, a local councillor, commented that it was ”excellent’ to see the Hall back in use and in action. The English Arts Council and the East of England Development Agency were among the sources provided funds for this buckingham project.
