You have decided to buy a new garden log cabin to fill that unused space in your garden and decide that is the hard bit. The easy part is to just search on the internet, type in the size you require, find the best price and order. Job done! If only? There are so many garden cabins available ranging from the ‘cheap and nasty’ to ones which would feel at home at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The answer is, sorry, but you need to do your homework and research what is available. What are they made from? Do they use chipboard, OSB or other nasty sheet materials? How safe is the glass? How strong are the doors and windows?. By doing your research you can be sure that you will buy the best corner cabin for your home.
One thing you should consider is the experience which your chosen supplier has. An established business will have learnt a great deal over the years about the products on offer and is the key to them being successful. This normally happens when they have been supplying the right corner cabins at the best value price (not always the cheapest) and this involves the feedback from their customers over the years. Choosing a business with an actual fixed address is always a good sign that they will be there when you need them.
If you choose a business which only supplies cabins from their web site how can you be sure that will be around if things go wrong. There are so many horror stories about buying on the web. It’s true that if you paid by credit card your money is protected but what price do you put on the stress caused with an ‘iffy’ corner log cabin and the issues sorting it out. At least with a ‘bricks and mortar’ business you can ‘pop’ down and see them to resolve any problems.
Corner log cabins are modular in design and can be interesting to assemble. Some people will say challenging. You may wish to take on this challenge and with a few friends be able to make a reasonable job of it. BUT, if you get it wrong, and corner cabins are more tricky than a normal log cabin, then you may end up regretting trying. Why risk your new cabin not being built correctly?
At 1st Choice we have selected teams of installers who can build your new building correctly ensuring that you don’t have any problems with it in the future. There is a cost to this but you need to weigh up the cost against the benefits – no heavy lifting, no swearing or falling out with your ‘other’ half. Why not just enjoy the final finished building with a nice glass of wine (or two).
The internet is a wonderful thing and it’s hard to remember what it was like less than 20 years ago. These days you can view flashy web sites with beautiful pictures or MAYBE get a colour brochure but nothing will give you the sense of seeing itself. On standard items such as washing machines, computers etc that is not important. But corner cabins are all different due to the material it is made from. By seeing your new cabin ‘in the flesh’ you can decide for yourself how good it is. See the quality and whether it will be right for you.
By doing so you can make an educated decision. Is it a ‘cheap and nasty’ building? Will it meet your needs? Does it look good? Are you happy with the people you are dealing with? All these things should help you make the right choice of garden log cabins so that it becomes a pleasure rather than a worry. And we don’t need that – do we? Remember that the cheapest cabin is not always the best value cabin.
One of the ‘economies’ used on the cheaper corner cabins is materials such as chipboard, OSB board, chipboard and inferior plywood. All these materials have their place but it’s certainly not in an outdoor environment because as soon as they get wet they will start to swell and deteriorate due to the dampness. And this is the start of the end for your new garden building unless you start repairing the damage.
It’s sad that the businesses using these type of materials aren’t upfront about it and often describe their floors and roofs as being made from ‘sheet materials’. I wonder why? With my cynical head on it’s because they don’t want you to know they are cutting corners. Why take the risk? Always say no to those unsuitable materials and, if you choose to risk it, be ready for any potential issues in the future.
