Why Not Build A Backyard Pond To Complement Your New Woodpro Log Cabin
Building a backyard pond can be an exciting and rewarding garden project. The addition of a pond will open a whole new dimension to the garden and your gardening experience. The decision to start building a backyard pond is one that many folks put off for year and then when they do make up their minds to get started are so thrilled by the project they wish they had done it years earlier.
There is no doubt about it the sound of water splashing from a waterfall in to a pond can add a very calm and peaceful feeling to your backyard garden. The pond in the picture was built by me and was all hand dug and I completed it in just four days from lay out to fully operational waterfall. The only assistance I had was help putting the waterfall stones in place as they were a tad to heavy for me to muscle myself.
Imagine sitting in your summerhouse looking out onto the pond with its running water. Sounds good to me, anyway.
It still amazes me what you can do with a shovel, pick axe, a rake, and a wheel barrow. The plantings were finished a day latter, and my backyard pond was complete. It really is not as complicated as it looks but you do need to do some research.
By the way the pond in the above picture did not look like that when it was finished. The picture was taken 3 years after the pond was completed. It takes quite a while to blossom but you can see how quickly the landscape will fill in.
The hardest part most people seem to have is with the pond materials and equipment. Back in the olden days we had to make our own filtration and pumping systems as well as find suitable liners for the pond. Thank goodness we live in modern times. You can now purchase complete kits just add labour, rocks, and gravel and you will have a pond. Oh yeah you will need to add some water too.
I highly recommend the purchase of a kit. The kit has everything you need and the equipment is matched to the size pond you are building. The instruction will give you an easy step by step guide and will make for a rather pleasant experience when building a backyard pond in your garden.
A Word Of Caution
They saying goes you get what you pay for. In this case it is true I highly recommend that you buy a kit with a 45mil EDPM liner as it will last for twenty years. After installing your pond you sure do not want to move all those rocks and replace the liner in 5 or 6 years.
The same goes for the pump a good pump will last for quite a few seasons before it needs to be replaced. A pump is easy to replace but a few hundred pounds is not so easy to replace in your wallet. The cost for the kit above was £2200 when it was built but worth every penny and has stood up to weather for many years now without a glitch. All chemicals etc are kept locked away in my workshop in the garden.
I hope you too will be shortly building a backyard pond.
Why not look out onto a pond from your Woodpro garden cabin.
