Bespoke Options
When choosing a summer building, you need to check the specifications to ensure it will have the strength to last. So always check out the thickness of the timber, whether it’s made from redwood or the cheap inferior whitewood, how thick the framing is etc. Are the doors and windows joinery made, meaning they will last a long time? Does it has toughened glass for safety or imperfect horticultural glass, plastic or perspex? All important questions.
On many of the buildings available on the web, you will find that they will deliver them to your house and leave them for you to build. You can save a little money this way, but you will have to build it yourself. That’s OK if you are a good DIYer, but it will still be hard work. The best option is to take advantage of 1st Choice’s FREE assembly option on the Diamond and Platinum buildings. They will do all the hard work – all you need to do is build a level base for it to go onto. And they can even arrange that for you as well if you wish. This way, you can be sure your new building will be built correctly, and all you need to do is enjoy it.
We have a large range of
summerhouse sizes for you to choose from and in several styles. However, we specialise in making buildings to suit your needs. To make the most of your new building, it’s a good idea to have it
lined and insulated to get the most use out of you all year round. Doing so will keep the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It’s possible to do this yourself if you feel confident. However, there is an option to do this for you on all the
Platinum buildings. It can be seen as a luxury, but you will be glad you did on those hot summer days or cold winter days. Just contact us, and we will arrange a free quote for you.
We provide a protective treatment on all our buildings but why not consider one painted with Sadolin (Diamond Buildings) or Valtti (Platinum Buildings) paints. Both are available in a range of colours so you find a colour to suit you. You can find more details about

The shed or summerhouse is, normally, a safe haven for your valuables where they can be kept dry and secure from intruders. Inside this versatile building your
tools, bikes, garden equipment and other such items are protected and are available as and when required. However, you do need to be careful and ensure all security measures are in place.
The shed is typically a man’s pride and joy and ‘woe betide’ anyone who dares to intrude into this space uninvited, whereas a lady can be more indulgent with a 16×8 summerhouse. This can include ‘the other half’ at times who sometimes come rooting about, but thankfully this doesn’t happen very often. This obsession with these garden buildings comes from early in the 20th century and peaked after the Second World War when the need to grow food helped with the meagre wages at the time but also turned into a welcome hobby and a break from the day to day toil of their daily job.
As time as gone on more and more women have also take a strong liking to the shed and many of them now have their own one of their own. These buildings are regularly used for their hobbies and crafting and you can include my wife in those groups. Most Wednesday nights she shares her 16×8 ‘hobby room’ which she bought from 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, who supply a range of timber summer houses as well, with her friends where they indulge in their hobby of card making and crafting. I will say both my wife and myself enjoy these evening for various reasons.
Like men women are very territorial about their outdoor building – ‘their pride and joy’ – and when a burglar decided to chance his arm and broke into Judith Gazzard’s 16×8 summer house he made a very bad choice. He obviously thought it was an easy target and after breaking into her conservatory then proceeded to break into her summer building as well.
Judith had heard a noise in the night and upon investigation found her conservatory in a right mess which she described as like a bomb site. Looking out into the garden she noticed a light on in the summerhouse so crept out and locked the door from outside before calling the police. Whether it’s a good idea to go outside in the dark at night is questionable but that did not deter her.
When the police arrived they found drug addict, Jason Marshall, inside who was high on drugs and had eaten from a tub of bird food pellets. If that is what these drugs do to you I’m glad I have never had the inclination to experiment with them. He also was found eating Magnums ice cream, which are my favourite. And if I had found him eating ‘MY’ Magnums and been in my garden shed then I would not have been responsible for my actions.
Judith’s actions led to Marshall going to court and being sent to jail for 16 months after he confessed to breaking into the summer house and conservatory. She was praised by the judge as her actions had helped to catch a repeat offender and was awarded £250 for her troubles.
This incident is just one of the reasons why you should ensure your shed and other garden buildings are kept locked up securely. By doing so you are removing the temptation from these people who, for one reason or another, are keen to target any easy and vulnerable buildings such as Judith’s 16×8 summer building. Take a look at 1st Choice’s articles which gives good advice as to what should be done. By following these guidelines you should make your shed and summer houses very undesirable to thieves which as to be a good thing.
