With all our summer houses they can be made with a storage shed attached which can be at the back of the summerhouse with a side door or you could have a door leading from the summerhouse directly into the combi shed. You can even have a store to the side of the summer building if that is better for you and in that case you would have the summer building doors and the shed door on the front or side to suit. It’s your choice and being all in one building will look great in your garden.
Then choose the location of door and windows and your new building will take shape. Sizes range from 8 x 6 right up to 20 x 14 (or larger even if you need it). Soundly made using redwood timber (for the longest life) – NO inferior whitewood waiting to let you down. Solid timber roofs and strong substantial floors. Also, as it’s important for your family safety, toughened glass is used as standard.
Allow the experts to create your new dream building in your garden for you secure in the knowledge that it has been built correctly and will face our British weather with no problem. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to enjoy your new building with your family and friends away from the pressure of the world.
You will never be able to judge very well from a leaflet of website how good a building is so come along and have a browse. There you will be able to see the quality and decide for yourself whether a building from ‘1st Choice’ should be your 1st choice. You will find that many summerhouse web sites won’t give you any opportunity whatsoever to see their products ‘in the flesh’ so ‘buyer beware.
With the addition of a veranda or balcony this will throw up new uses for your summerhouse. Add in a partition and a side door and it can combine to be a summerhouse and storage shed – how good is that?
So if the building was 12ft wide across the front the partition would be 12ft and the cost would be an extra £300. You would then need to add a door for access to the combi storage shed and this would be about £100, depending on the type of door chosen. The second way to get rough price is to take the price of the summerhouse and the price of the shed and add them together and it would be there about. Summer house or garden shed-workshop? What should you go for? You know you like the look of a summerhouse where you can sit and relax after a long week at work with your family and friends. But you need a garden shed or workshop for storing all your garden equipment, tools, tins of paint etc which would be wasted in a summer building. The answer is to combine the two into one building which is an integral shed-workshop built into the summerhouse. This will allow your garden to have one streamline building fulfilling both options.
It’s important that any summerhouse-shed combo reflects your needs so you need to ensure the manufacturer makes the building to suit you. The more usual summer house with shed would have the summer building at the front and the shed attached across the back of it. You would then normally access the shed from an extra door on the side of the structure. This way ensures that the shed is a totally separate building which can be kept locked denying access to young children or intruders. Or you could have a door leading from inside the summer building directly into the shed storage section. This reduces the number of access points and makes it more secure.
It’s even possible to have the section across part of the front of the building. In this instance the summer house would be set to one side with its doors for access and the shed with door for access to it set to the other side. Or again you could have an internal door leading into the shed. The possibilities are endless and will (or should) reflect your needs for your home and family.
The best part of 1st Choice’s range of buildings is that you can choose any of their styles of buildings as the base building. Select the one which appeals to you and your family and from there you can add a shed – storage – workshop to it. And at the back or side to suit you. The doors and windows can go where you like to ensure the building meets your needs. Size-wise goes from about 8 ft x 6 ft right up to 20 ft x 14 ft (or even larger). Your building will be made from solid, long-lasting redwood timber. There’s no place for inferior white wood in these buildings. Solid timber roofs (no OSB or other ‘sheet’ materials used). And because the safety of your family is paramount only toughened glass is used in the doors and windows.
The design of these building ensures that they can be assembled easily but it’s hard work. Besides that it’s important the roof is felted correctly to protect it from the great British weather. However, the price of our summer houses with shed includes free assembly. This ensure the building is erected correctly and, as importantly, ensures you don’t hurt yourself moving large heavy panels about. By allowing our experts to erect your dream building you can be secure in the knowledge it has been built correctly and will laugh in the face of bad weather.
To ensure your ‘peace of mind’ it’s crucial you view any possible shed summerhouse combi before committing your self. It’s also can be hard to know all the options available so by visiting our show site near Guildford in Surrey we can advise and guide you as to what your finished building should look like. This will ensure you get the building which fulfils all your needs. Be very wary if you can’t see any building beforehand as you don’t know what the quality is until it’s too late. Many Internet companies won’t give you an opportunity to view at all and expecting you to decide on their web site or if you are lucky, a leaflet. Don’t regret not making the effort to view.
Due to the many options and variations of a summer house with shed it’s not possible to have a price list to cover all of them. To get a ‘ballpark’ figure all you need to do is to decide on the overall size of your combined building, which can be any of the Diamond or Platinum range of summerhouse. Take that price and add the cost for a partition and a door. A partition works our roughly at £25 per linear foot so a building 12 ft wide would be 12 (ft) x £25 so would be £300 extra. A door, depending on which style you go for, would be about £100. However, we are very happy to provide a firm, no obligation quote to suit your needs which can be done over the phone on (01483) 237550 or by our online contact form or by visiting our display site where we have over 60 buildings on display.
Now is the time to give some thought to a combined shed and summerhouse. Not only will it look good being one integral building it will save space in your garden and be easier to maintain.
a/ Decide on the design of building you would like and go to that web page.
b/ On the web page, there will be a link to the price list relating to that model. Either decide on the overall size of your summerhouse shed combo and write down the prices.
c/ You then need to add an internal partition and the cost for this is about £25 per linear foot. So if the building was 12ft wide across the front the partition would be 12ft and the cost would be an extra £300.
d/ You would then need to add a door for access to the combi storage shed and this would be about £100, depending on the type of door chosen.
The second way to get a rough price is to take the price of the summerhouse and the price of the shed and add them together and it would be there about.
A summer house shed combo is a worthwhile addition to any garden and will actually help to improve your garden. This is because of the many uses for which they can be used for and not just for storage although that is one of their main uses.
With the storage hat on your garden shed will enable you to keep all your garden tools and other implements, seeds etc. on one confined location. This will keep your house clear enabling you to have more space indoors. Being in one space it will be easier to find your tools etc., except if you pile your shed with side storage full of items which you are ‘keeping just in case’. You will also find that your shed will provide shelter from the elements as many gardening duties can be performed inside. The summerhouse side of it (combination) is great for relaxing in.
If you have a potting shed, maybe like this one, this will enable you to bring on those young seedlings before they are planted out into the garden when the weather warms up. Besides this sort of use, the potting shed will allow you to grow fruit inside and this will be ready for eating much earlier in the year. This will save you money as you won’t have to pay the very high prices when home produced fruit start to come into the shops.
These shed and summer house combination buildings can be used as an economical home office just by lining and insulating the inside. This will enable it to be used all year round. This in itself is a reasonably easy thing to do for a reasonable DIY’er and is well worth considering. This building will then give you the peace and quiet to work or to contemplate the goings on in the world. A clear winner for many shed owners.
It is possible to utilise your shed as a summer leisure area. With the addition of a small fridge inside, a cocktail bar (if you are posh) and a little seating this may fit the bill. You can even have a barbecue set up outside where you can cook some delicious food (well usually). Having said that most people would content themselves with a cheap gazebo from your local DIY shed, such as Wickes, B&Q or Homebase.
The children would be delighted if you allowed them to use the combination garden room as a play area. It goes without saying, or it should, that all dangerous items are removed from the shed so they can play in peace. In an ideal world, you would buy them their own playhouse, which at the end of the day is just a small garden shed. Nowadays these are made to quite high safety standards to ensure the children don’t come to any harm.
A reasonably large and decent quality contemporary summerhouse with side shed or big summer houses could be used as a home gym. Again this gives you an area where the equipment can be left in situ after your workout. You would, ideally, need a little higher internal height such as these Platinum garden workshops or Garden Studios and these make an ideal summerhouse shed combi buildings. They would need a strong floor and in a lot of cases the floors can be strengthened if you are using heavy equipment.
Other uses include using the shed as a hobby room where your activities can be enjoyed in earnest. By the addition of some simple furniture and a table or bench, the shed can be a haven for your creative talent to flow out. Again this simple change of use is a viable option of the common garden shed.
All this goes to prove that the a modern summer house with shed, which can aesthetically be pleasing, is a very versatile building for every home. The choice of timber is a good one as this seems to blend in with the natural surroundings of most gardens. Certainly worth giving it some consideration.
Moving on from that if you find your garden looking a little drab then the addition of some bulbs can make it look a whole lot brighter. This does involve a little work but you will find that the colour they produce will bring a smile even on a cold or wet day to your garden, although with weather like today, the cold and wet days seem a distant memory.
In a report, it was established that bulbs can cope with our British temperamental weather and was recommended as being a boon to your home. By forward planning, you can ensure colour all year around in your garden. By the choice of different flower bulbs you can stagger their blooming throughout a great deal of the year.
You can put flower bulbs, due to come out in the Spring, into buckets or flower pots and this will give them an early start. Likewise, most receptacles can serve for this purpose. However, one of the favorites is surely the daffodil. These bulbs, to me, signal the start of the Spring and the end of the winter. The delightful bright yellow daffodil heads suggest the warmth of the sun and summer are nearly with us for another year.
The most important thing is to prepare your garden well by removing weeds and by adding compost and other organic matter to the ground before the addition of these lovely bulbs. If the bulbs have been grown in pots, maybe in your garden room with shed attached, then this can give them a head start. However, ensure you provide good drainage for them when you put them into the garden.
You will find that from July garden centres will be selling bulbs will be suitable for Autumn sowing so you can start planning now. However any spring flowering bulbs should be left a little later to plant with daffodils in October or November for tulips, another favourite flower.
When buying be a little careful and examine each bulb to ensure they are firm to the touch. Reject all which are showing signs of softness or signs of mould. Nice fat bulbs are the best bet as smaller bulbs are unlikely to flower in the first year. When planting ensure the bulbs are planted about 3-4 times the size of the bulb. For example, a bulb 1 inch deep should be about 3-4 inches in the ground. This will ensure good stability in your garden.
Most people tend to plant bulbs around the borders of the garden but they can create a great and impressive display when planted under a lawn. Each year they will flower giving you a blaze of colour and when they die off you can have the full benefit of the lawn with its beautiful green colour.
A good place to plant bulbs is also in front of your garden shed and summerhouse combination buildings. Maybe consider a summer house shed for the best of both worlds You will find that the shed will shade the flowers from any wind and the shed itself acts as a backdrop ensuring that the full colour and beauty of the flowers become apparent. As most sheds are at the bottom of the garden they can seem to be a little bland but with the addition of some colourful flowers will shine out and brighten the garden. Maybe, if your garden shed is showing signs of old age then a visit to 1st Choice Leisure Buildings and see their summerhouse with side shed as this would be a good place to go to.
You will find that tulips are quite happy on the dry south-facing borders near hedges and will flower for many years as will many other bulbs. The only thing to watch out for is squirrels who are quite eager to dig these bulbs up. As the hedges give a little shelter this makes this location a haven for these little creatures, unfortunately.
However, the addition of these wonderful flowering bulbs will delight you and your family all year round. There is only a small amount of effort involved and the cost is minimal, certainly when you consider these flowers will flower for many, many years.
