The British garden shed! Where would we be without it? Doesn’t bear thinking about – but I’m biased I suppose being in the garden shed business for over 39 years. Even before I started my shed business, because I loved sheds, I built one out of old floorboards. I do admit it looked a little unsightly but it serves its purpose well.
And I’m not the only one to build a shed out of unusual materials or old materials. Just take a look at any allotments nearby to you and you will see the British at their best with the vast array of different homemade sheds. As I understand it the first thing you need when you get an allotment is a shed so you can house your tools and take a break from digging and planting.
So the general consensus the shed is normally viewed as an all-rounder. Whether it stuffed to the ‘gills’ with all manner of garden items such as the lawnmower, bags of compost, tools, bikes etc. or pristine, orderly and tidy it serves this purpose easily. If you are thinking about a new garden shed, replacement or addition then take a little time to ensure the new shed will do the trick.
If you are thinking of working from home part-time or even full time then the shed can fulfil this role. It will also give you a haven away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life allowing you to be more creative. It’s is a good idea to have the shed insulated and lined in this instance and you will find that 1st Choice’s Platinum workshops, which can be insulated would serve this purpose admirably. Fitted out this way with suitable heating you can use it all year round.
It has been suggested that a shed could be used as a barbecue shed. Not sure if that is a good idea as I believe any barbecuing should be in the open. Perhaps that’s not what it meant. You could utilise the shed as an area for shade and sitting in but a summerhouse would be more appropriate. Also if the weather is good then I would normally expect to make the most of this weather.
If you want your children to love you then a playhouse would be great for them. Essentially a playhouse is a small shed but a normal shed could be bought for them They will enjoy their space the same but this would be a better and more practical proposition in the long term. Some advice is to ensure that the hinges are ‘piano’ type ideally and that the doors can not close onto little fingers. Also, be a little careful with the glass, maybe putting a plastic film on it to reduce the risk of breaking.
Another popular use is as a craft or hobby area where you can engage in your hobby. Having space dedicated to your interest will ensure that when you want to spend some time engaging in it you are ready to go. No set up as the shed is just as you left it from your last session.
If you thinking of reducing your waistline and getting fit then it’s possible to use the shed as a home gym, however, most sheds might be too low. Speak to 1st Choice about their range of garden sheds with extra height and strengthened floors before deciding. This will ensure you won’t be restricted in the type of fitness equipment which you can use.
Clearly, the garden shed is a wonderful and versatile building which can fulfil a myriad of purposes. To ensure it will meet your specific purpose always ensure you talk to a company which is well established and knowledgeable. And where ever possible try to view a selection of their buildings so you make a judgement on the quality. As the experts say Caveat Emptor. (Let the buyer beware.) By seeing for yourself you can reduce the risk.
