Should I Choose An Summer House With Insulation in The UK
The summerhouse is used mainly through the summer months and during the colder parts of the year is turned into a glorified storage building for all your garden furniture, lawn mowers etc. Well, surely it would be good to use all year round. Well by investing a little more and insulating your summerhouse you would be able to enjoy its use all year round. It would be great for your children who can get out of the house and have a little space for playing computer games, listening to music or sharing times with their friends. Or Mum and Dad could have a ‘man cave’ or ‘shed den’ for their hobbies and allowing a little sanity in a busy lifestyle. Even use as a home office where you could run a small business – and in this instance, the cost would be tax deductible against any business profits and this would be a ‘win-win’ for you.
Is It Possible To Insulate My Summer Building After Delivery?
If you have reasonable DIY skills there is no reason why you couldn’t insulate the building after delivery. You would need to buy fibreglass insulation or polystyrene to insulate the building. This would then need to be cut to size and fitted into the space between the internal framework. Polystyrene is easier to use as it is rigid. If you use fibreglass then this would need to be tacked in to place. After you have done this you would use hardboard (which can sometimes have an attractive veneer to it), plywood or even T&G timber cladding. The roof is a little trickier and this is where I would recommend polystyrene. You would need to cut this very slightly oversize so that when you put it in the roof gaps it would have to be compressed slightly and would stay in place on its own. Ideally, you would need two or three people to complete the roof – two to hold the roof covering and one to screw it into place. To finish off you should have cover strips over the joins. Job done.
What Other Choices Do I Have?
We are able to offer the fabulous Platinum summerhouses and summer buildings for your garden in a full range of insulating options. The roof and walls can be insulated and then lined allowing you to benefit from all year round use. We can even insulate the floor as well. The normal option is Kingspan which is insulation with a foil backing and enhances the insulation properties. And there are a number of different lining options, so one of these should suit you. To enhance the appearance internal trims will be added for a delightful finish.
How Much Will This Set Me Back?
The majority of the Platinum summerhouses have the prices on the order form on each page so you can check out the cost. On most, there is an option to insulate the floor as well to stop any cold coming up from the ground. The big question is can you afford it and justify the cost. Well if you would like to use your building all year round then sit down and work out what this could be worth to you. The extra space, an office, a hobby room or a haven away from the day to day mad pace of our everyday lives must be a great investment for your home and family.
Will My Insulated Summerhouse Be Warm In The Winter?
By adding insulation to your summer building either by you doing or by having the convenience of us doing it you will find it will be nearly as warm as inside your house. Naturally, you would need the same amount of heating as you would have in your home, certainly during the cooler months. An electric radiator is ideal for this but never ever use a Calor gas heater. Besides being a fire risk these types of heaters produce a lot of moisture and can make your building damp. Avoid these at all costs.
The other bonus is that by adding insulation you will keep your sunhouse cooler during the hot summers we have (well we have them sometimes!) This is something that not many people think about and nor did I until I noticed the difference in an insulated and uninsulated building on our display site. I couldn’t believe the difference so I had to double check. Another great reason to opt for insulation.
