A good motorbike shed needs to do considerably more than keep the rain off your motorcycle. You need enough room to wheel the bike in comfortably, doors wide enough for handlebars and mirrors, a solid base and a level of security appropriate to the value of the motorcycle and equipment stored inside.

Which Motorbike Shed Should I Choose?
If you want a building designed specifically around motorcycle storage, I would start with the GardenVault Birkdale Motorcycle Garage. It is 5ft wide, available in different lengths and uses 1.2mm galvanised steel with reinforced doors and surrounds, wide double doors, a steel and wooden floor arrangement, a ramp, and a secure Euro-cylinder locking system.
The larger Clydesdale, Glendale and Deepdale buildings are also actually displayed on this page and provide more internal room where you want space around the motorcycle for helmets, clothing, tools, chargers, paddock stands and other equipment.
Forestdale, Skelmersdale, Tarrickdale and Silverdale are also shown in this category and may suit more restricted spaces, although I would check the precise door opening and internal dimensions carefully before assuming a particular model will suit your motorcycle.
What About Allandale and Avondale?

If you are storing a motorbike rather than bicycles, I would compare the exact door opening, internal dimensions and security specifications before considering them.
How Much Space Does a Motorbike Shed Need?
Do not measure the motorcycle by length alone. Measure the practical width including mirrors, handlebars and any permanently fitted panniers, then allow enough room to wheel the bike in and out without catching the doors or walls.
Also think about whether you need to walk alongside the motorcycle or carry out basic maintenance inside. A bike which technically fits can still be frustrating to use if there is no room for you, your riding kit or your tools.
Why Door Width Matters for Motorbike Storage
For everyday use, door access can be just as important as the overall shed size. The Birkdale has wide double doors specifically intended for motorcycles, which makes manoeuvring considerably easier than trying to guide a large bike through a narrow single doorway.
I would measure the clear opening rather than just the nominal shed width. Also look at the route immediately outside the building because a wide door is of limited use if a wall, fence or tight turn makes it difficult to approach straight on.
What Makes Secure Motorbike Storage?
For secure motorbike storage, I would look at the whole building rather than the lock alone. Steel thickness, door and frame reinforcement, hinges, fixings, locking arrangements, floor or base construction and how the building is anchored all matter.
The Birkdale, for example, uses 1.2mm galvanised steel, reinforced doors and surrounds, double-folded joints and a drill- and pick-resistant Euro-cylinder lock. Larger steel buildings such as Deepdale use similarly substantial construction, although specifications vary by model.
Do Motorbike Sheds Need a Proper Base?
Yes. A heavy steel motorcycle store needs a firm, flat and level foundation. The Birkdale installation information specifies a level concrete base, and I don’t recommend placing a substantial motorcycle building directly on lawn or soft ground.
A poor base can affect door alignment and make the whole building harder to use. Always work from the precise base dimensions for the particular model you order rather than assuming the nominal shed size is the required foundation size. What About Condensation?
Motorcycles are often put away damp after a ride, so ventilation matters. Steel buildings can suffer from condensation when warm, moist air meets cold metal surfaces, particularly if the foundation itself is damp.
Keep ventilation openings clear and make sure the base is properly prepared so water cannot seep into the building. Good airflow and sensible site preparation help protect the motorcycle and the items stored alongside it. Can a Motorbike Shed Be Professionally Assembled?
Yes. Assembly services are available for relevant steel buildings shown on this page, and the Birkdale currently includes free assembly within the applicable delivery area. Larger buildings such as Deepdale also have an installation-service option.
With a substantial steel building, correct assembly and anchoring matter. If you are not comfortable building it yourself, professional installation is worth considering.
What About Timber Motorbike Storage?
The Shoreham Narrow Shed is the timber product currently displayed on this page. It is only 3ft wide and available in longer configurations so that it can provide useful storage in a narrow space. However, I would check motorcycle width and door access particularly carefully before considering it for a motorbike.
Timber gives a more traditional garden appearance and is easier to customise internally. Still, if enhanced security is your main concern, compare it carefully with the purpose-designed steel options.
What If I Want to Maintain My Motorcycle Inside the Shed?
If you plan to do more than store the motorcycle, allow enough room to work safely around it. Think about space for a workbench, tools, paddock stands, shelves, riding equipment and any other items you want to keep inside. My Experience With Garden Buildings Goes Back to 1979
I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my own business in 1979 trading as Marina Sheds. I learnt the garden-building trade hands-on by making and selling sheds, delivering buildings and dealing directly with customers, so I have always looked at whether a building is genuinely suitable for the job rather than simply whether it looks good in a photograph.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money which was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but I stayed in the garden-building industry and carried on.
In 1992 we expanded beyond sheds and added summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. That wider direction led to the name Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his own practical construction knowledge into the business.
We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and in 2000 formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Rather than being tied to one manufacturer’s products, Craig and I wanted to compare quality buildings from different suppliers and give customers a genuine choice.

Why Does My Experience Matter When Choosing Motorbike Storage?
My original manufacturing experience was with timber buildings. Still, more than four decades in the garden-building industry have taught me to look at the whole build rather than labels. For motorcycle storage, I would examine the doors, locks, wall construction, base, ventilation and usable access before worrying about cosmetic details.

Photographs and specifications are useful, but seeing the doors, steel construction, locks and internal space in person makes it much easier to understand the differences between models.
