My Experience With Garden Buildings Since 1979
I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my first garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. Being directly involved in manufacturing and selling timber buildings gave me practical experience of how garden buildings are constructed as well as an understanding of what customers actually need from them.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money I was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it certainly didn’t end my involvement with garden buildings.
By 1992 we had expanded beyond traditional sheds to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. This change in direction led to the business becoming Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his own practical knowledge of timber and construction into the business.
We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and, in 2000, decided to take a different approach by retailing quality garden buildings from established manufacturers whose products we were happy to recommend. This led to the formation of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Craig now runs the day-to-day business, and I support him and the team as required.
After more than four decades in the garden building industry, I have learnt that you shouldn’t choose a building from photographs or a headline price alone. Look carefully at how it is made, what specification you’re getting, and whether it suits how you actually intend to use it. That’s the approach we take throughout this website: giving customers useful information so they can compare their options and make an informed decision.
