Bespoke Options
When choosing a summer building, you need to check the specifications to ensure it will have the strength to last. So always check out the thickness of the timber, whether it’s made from redwood or the cheap inferior whitewood, how thick the framing is etc. Are the doors and windows joinery made, meaning they will last a long time? Does it has toughened glass for safety or imperfect horticultural glass, plastic or perspex? All important questions.
On many of the buildings available on the web, you will find that they will deliver them to your house and leave them for you to build. You can save a little money this way, but you will have to build it yourself. That’s OK if you are a good DIYer, but it will still be hard work. The best option is to take advantage of 1st Choice’s FREE assembly option on the Diamond and Platinum buildings. They will do all the hard work – all you need to do is build a level base for it to go onto. And they can even arrange that for you as well if you wish. This way, you can be sure your new building will be built correctly, and all you need to do is enjoy it.
We have a large range of
summerhouse sizes for you to choose from and in several styles. However, we specialise in making buildings to suit your needs. Whether it needs to be taller, extra or fewer windows, the doors and windows moved, we can do that for you. Ensure you buy the building to suit you and your family with no compromises. To make the most of your new building, it’s a good idea to have it
lined and insulated to get the most use out of you all year round. Doing so will keep the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It’s possible to do this yourself if you feel confident. However, there is an option to do this for you on all the
Platinum buildings. It can be seen as a luxury, but you will be glad you did on those hot summer days or cold winter days. Just contact us, and we will arrange a free quote for you.
We provide a protective treatment on all our buildings but why not consider one painted with Sadolin (Diamond Buildings) or Valtti (Platinum Buildings) paints. Both are available in a range of colours so you find a colour to suit you. You can find more details about

We have a large collection of wooden buildings that you are welcome to view. We will be delighted to show you the different buildings and answer any queries you may have. We can provide quotations as well. Another thing to do is to take a look at the
feedback from previous customers which can be enlightening.

Modern day houses, because of the sheer cost of land and the demand for them, have been getting smaller and smaller over the last 30-40 years and this has made the use of as much space as possible imperative. By utilising the available area you can make the most of what you have got. And this is where your garden can come into play by the addition of a
garden shed to ease the pressure from indoors. Ideally, if you can, a 12×6 summer house can serve two purposes – as a recreational area and for storage.
In fact most summer buildings will provide great storage solutions to ease the problem of too little space. And with this summerhouse you can store garden tools, bikes, garden furniture, golf clubs (if you are of that vent) freeing up valuable space in the house as well as helping to keeping it lean. Besides the practical use of the garden shed you will find that a decent building will add to the value of the house when you come to move on.
By a decent building I mean steering clear of buildings made with chipboard, sterling board, wafer board (often described as ‘sheet materials’) as these materials are cheap and not suitable where they can get wet. Always aim for a proper tongue and grooved (T&G) timber floor to allay any fears of early failure. Where ever possible view your prospective summerhouse at a display site, such as 1st Choice’s where you can see an array of buildings, including 12 x6 summerbuildings, BEFORE buying. This way you can ensure that the quality is right. Might be a few pounds more but in the long run will be well worth it.
You need to take a look at your garden to see the best place for a building. You may have an alleyway alongside the house which is wasted space. If you have 3ft of space then the Diamond Shoreham shed will fit the bill. Being very narrow these will slip into this area very well and will provide useful and dry storage. Even if the space is a little less than 3ft you can still buy one of these sheds as they can be made slightly undersize to fit your gap for just a small premium. This is great use for an unused space.
You may have space for a garden shed at the bottom of the garden where you can add a building which again would add to your storage needs. There is a choice of apex roofed shed (sometimes called a ridge, gable or pointed roof shed) or pent (sometimes called flat or mono pitch). Where as an apex summer building looks nicer and more traditional, in my view, you will find that the pent style offers more storage space in it. This is because the space above the windows on the high side of the shed can accommodate a shelf. This will give extra valuable storage – and every inch counts!
Always try to get the largest building possible without taking up too much of the garden. By doing this you will find you gain the most use from it but still retain space for relaxing out there. There are attractive sheds available such as these 12×6 garden summer houses which are quite appealing. Being more attractive they tend to blend in more sympathetically with its surroundings.
Sometimes there is not space for a building 12 x 6 in size but there are options for small lean to type sheds which can rest next to the house. Although a little smaller they do offer valuable extra storage space. You can also consider a shed cum store for your wheelie bins and recycle boxes and you can see various models at 1st Choice’s display site. When closed it keeps foxes away and stops children playing near your bins.
Upon reading through this it makes me realise how lucky I am living in a pre-war 1930 semi. These wonderful houses tend to come with large gardens which is a boon for day to day living. I do remember when I moved in back in 1977 the previous owner had built a shed right across the bottom of the garden. I could not believe my luck. Whether this started me on my life in garden sheds – I don’t know – but 40 years later I still love my outdoor buildings and have a delightful Platinum 12×6 summer house to enjoy throughout the year
