When choosing a summer building, you need to check the specifications to ensure it will have the strength to last. So always check out the thickness of the timber, whether it’s made from redwood or the cheap inferior whitewood, how thick the framing is etc. Are the doors and windows joinery made, meaning they will last a long time? Does it has toughened glass for safety or imperfect horticultural glass, plastic or perspex? All important questions.
On many of the buildings available on the web, you will find that they will deliver them to your house and leave them for you to build. You can save a little money this way, but you will have to build it yourself. That’s OK if you are a good DIYer, but it will still be hard work. The best option is to take advantage of 1st Choice’s FREE assembly option on the Diamond and Platinum buildings. They will do all the hard work – all you need to do is build a level base for it to go onto. And they can even arrange that for you as well if you wish. This way, you can be sure your new building will be built correctly, and all you need to do is enjoy it.

It’s long been established that the shed is the second home of most men and an area where they can feel their word is law. Not that ‘her indoors’ is demanding but I think in most homes, and I think most men would agree, that the lady of the house is the stronger of the two sexes. The shed is another ‘kettle of fish’
and the lady is quite happy to get the men out of her way – and this works well. If you offer your ‘good lady’ a 14×8 summerhouse then I’m sure she would be interested in the outdoors as well.
The history of the shed can be traced back many years and its heyday was after the Second World War where the need to utilise the garden remained a priority. Besides helping with the family’s budget and the nation’s balance of payment deficit the garden shed provided a relaxing place for the man. Working hard through the day and tending to the garden at night at the weekend was tiring but working in the garden was refreshing and therapeutic.
This has been backed up by modern day research which shows that not only does having a shed make people happier it can actually increase their life span which has to be good. There’s no annual charge for having one so that’s another reason to get on the band wagon.
The research also claims that men have it is nearly in their DNA that the desire to be outside and achieving things. This may go back to the days when men lived in caves and peered out nervously at the passing dinosaur (not really) but there were many dangers out in the open and the cave, and nowadays the shed – maybe a 14×8 summer house (if you want to push the boat out), does provide shelter and security.
These buildings can be seen as an isolated place for a man but sometimes these peace is just what the doctor ordered. Being on your own can be relaxing and gives one time to think and contemplate the world. On the other hand there are sheds, such as the one on allotments, which are very social. Within these buildings many ideas are discussed and the world is put to right so, again, are great for the health of the owner.
Within the garden buildings, with its peace and quiet, many creative people such as writers and authors, painters and inventors have created untold number of great advances for mankind, The stories written was enjoyed by many people and will do for many years. The brilliant inventions have changed the world for the better and I’m sure the ideas and inventions will carry on coming.
It’s hard to believe that this simple garden building, the garden shed, can provide such a benefit to health and well being. It’s probably helps in the domestic situation where there is a little space between husband and wife, or partner and partner nowadays. And this is without taking into account all the many uses the shed has anyway. Three cheers for the humble British garden shed or, maybe a big upmarket, a 14×8 insulated summer house.
