Bespoke Options
When choosing a summer building, you need to check the specifications to ensure it will have the strength to last. So always check out the thickness of the timber, whether it’s made from redwood or the cheap inferior whitewood, how thick the framing is etc. Are the doors and windows joinery made, meaning they will last a long time? Does it has toughened glass for safety or imperfect horticultural glass, plastic or perspex? All important questions.
On many of the buildings available on the web, you will find that they will deliver them to your house and leave them for you to build. You can save a little money this way, but you will have to build it yourself. That’s OK if you are a good DIYer, but it will still be hard work. The best option is to take advantage of 1st Choice’s FREE assembly option on the Diamond and Platinum buildings. They will do all the hard work – all you need to do is build a level base for it to go onto. And they can even arrange that for you as well if you wish. This way, you can be sure your new building will be built correctly, and all you need to do is enjoy it.

To make the most of your new building, it’s a good idea to have it
lined and insulated to get the most use out of you all year round. Doing so will keep the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It’s possible to do this yourself if you feel confident. However, there is an option to do this for you on all the
Platinum buildings. It can be seen as a luxury, but you will be glad you did on those hot summer days or cold winter days. Just contact us, and we will arrange a free quote for you.
We provide a protective treatment on all our buildings but why not consider one painted with Sadolin (Diamond Buildings) or Valtti (Platinum Buildings) paints. Both are available in a range of colours so you find a colour to suit you. You can find more details about

A 10×8 garden summer house is a particularly British thing and you will find that most gardens often have one. Some are very old and on their ‘last legs’ but whilst the economy is like it is at the moment it will need to last at least another winter. Some are large are – some are small but all these buildings have in common is the usefulness they provide.
Another British thing is the great outdoors and camping. Whilst we have variable weather it is always good to get out of our garden and away to the country or seaside. Provided it does not rain too much it can be pleasant.
The cheapest way to enjoy the outdoors is to go camping where a cheap tent can provide shelter for your holiday. These come in a range of sizes from a ‘pup’ tent, maybe 10 x 8 feet, right through to massive great buildings with individual rooms and which require a massive size pitch. The beauty of this is your choice. You can even use a trailer tent which is great for the convenience. These tents and trailer tents are often stored in a summer building when not in use so they are ready to go at a moment’s notice.
Moving up from that (which not every body sees as moving up) is to a caravan. Again size varies from 2 berth or to about 6 berth. Motor homes is another step which many people take and which is great. As soon as you arrive on site within 10 minutes the kettle is on and a welcoming cup of tea is warming your hands and insides.
Tents have developed over the years and far removed from tents of the 50’s and 60’s where ex-army tents such as bell tents, larger than a 10×8 ft summer house, were popular. However generally on the outside the tents were plain colours, some with different colour trims, and some with different colour walls. Until recently Field Candy came up with an unusual idea.
I don’t know whether the idea came from when the inventor was beavering away in his 10×8 summer building as many good invention are conceived out in the garden, but the idea to make a shed look like something else was genius. Their tents are not just plain colours but have a picture printed onto the walls to make the tent look totally different.
The design which really took my fancy, as as someone who has made 10×8 summer houses, was the one based on a garden building. This must appeal to all ‘sheddies’ who don’t like being away from THEIR garden building as the appearance is uncannily realistic and quirky at the same time. Showing signs of more than a few years in the garden and with rusty garden shed hinges, a pair of wellies outside and tap and watering can one can imagine the shed memories this will bring whilst away on holiday. I really like the sign on the shed door which says ‘Gone to the Pub’.
Andy Cahill says “There are some sacred places in the world. But for a man, nowhere more so than his outdoor building. A sanctuary, an escape where he can leave things how he wants, without fear of being nagged. Men, this is your tent, do with it as you please.” His company wants to add colour, fun and creative ideas into your camping holiday. He hopes their range of totally different designs will do this.
Some other designs, maybe also created in his 10×8 summerhouse, is a field with sheep, a large lump of cheese, a leopard design or for book worms, like my daughter, an opened out book. Also for fruit lovers there is a strawberry surprise design which would be hard not to eat as well as some saucy girls ones. You can take a look at these designs on their web site webcandy.com.
