10×10 Summerhouse – Fitted FREE
10ft x 10ft Summer Houses

Our 10×10 summerhouse range gives you around 100 sq ft of useful garden space for relaxing, hobbies, entertaining or working from home. Choose from traditional, contemporary, corner and insulated 10ft x 10ft summer houses, with professional fitting included on the ranges shown. I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I’ve worked with timber garden buildings since 1979. My advice is to compare the timber, framing, floor, roof, doors, glazing and insulation rather than judging on photographs alone. You can also visit our Surrey display site to compare full-size buildings before deciding.

Choosing the Right 10ft x 10ft Summer House

A 10ft x 10ft summer house has a nominal footprint of around 100 square feet, or approximately 9.3 square metres. For many gardens, that is a particularly useful size because it provides noticeably more usable room than a small summerhouse without automatically dominating the garden. Depending on the design, you can comfortably plan space for seating, a table, hobbies, shelving or a desk while still leaving room to move around.

I would always mark out the full 10ft by 10ft footprint in the garden before ordering. It is much easier to judge the space when you can physically see it on the ground. Remember that the nominal building size is only a guide: always check the exact dimensions of your chosen model, including roof overhangs, access requirements and the manufacturer’s required base size.

My Experience With Garden Buildings Since 1979

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my first garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I was involved hands-on with making, selling and delivering timber buildings, and that experience still influences the way I judge a summerhouse today.

I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money that was due from the sale. By 1992 our direction had broadened beyond sheds to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins, so we traded as Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his own practical knowledge of timber construction into the business.

We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998. In 2000, Craig and I decided that rather than manufacture everything ourselves, we would independently retail quality garden buildings from manufacturers whose products we were happy to recommend, and 1st Choice Leisure Buildings was formed. Craig now runs the day-to-day business, and I support him and the team whenever required.

Why does that history matter when you are choosing a 10 x 10 summerhouse? Because two buildings can look remarkably similar in photographs but have very different specifications. After decades of working with garden buildings, I still look first at the quality and thickness of the timber, framing, floor, roof, doors, glazing, and overall construction. My advice is to buy the specification your intended use needs rather than automatically choosing either the cheapest or the most expensive building.

What Can You Use a 10 x 10 Summerhouse For?

The square proportions are one of the main reasons I like a 10 x 10 summerhouse. A square interior gives you useful wall space on several sides and makes furniture placement easier than in some long, narrow buildings. You might use one side for comfortable seating and another for a desk, craft table or storage while retaining useful open space in the middle.

A 10ft by 10ft summer house can work very well as a garden retreat, hobby room, craft room, reading room, studio, entertaining space or occasional home office. Your intended use should determine the specification. A building mainly used on warm weekends has different requirements from one intended as a regular office during colder months.

Diamond, Platinum or Royal 10×10 Summerhouses?

Our 10×10 range gives you a choice of specifications rather than one type of building at different prices. For conventional leisure use and value, I would normally start by comparing our Diamond summer houses. Platinum buildings are worth considering when you want a higher specification, greater flexibility or insulation options. Royal buildings are designed for customers wanting something closer to a substantial, fully insulated garden room.

The important question is not simply “which is best?” but “which is best for the way I intend to use it?” You can browse our complete summer houses range or compare other summer house sizes if you are not certain that 10ft x 10ft is right for your garden.

Should I Choose a Conventional or Corner 10×10 Summer House?

A conventional square summerhouse gives you straightforward internal wall space and works particularly well if you want to position sofas, shelving, a desk or other furniture against several walls. A corner design uses an angled frontage to look diagonally across the garden and can turn an otherwise awkward corner into an attractive place to sit.

When considering a corner building, I suggest standing where the summerhouse will go and looking back across your garden. The view you will have from inside is often just as important as the building’s appearance. See our wider selection of corner summer houses if this layout appeals to you.

Do You Need an Insulated 10ft x 10ft Summer House?

Whether insulation is worthwhile depends mainly on how often and when you intend to use your building. For a conventional summer retreat used mainly in warmer weather, you may decide the extra expense isn’t worth it. If you intend to work, pursue hobbies or spend several hours inside during colder weather, insulation becomes much more valuable.

Remember that insulation does not create heat; it helps slow heat transfer. Heating, ventilation, glazing and the overall building specification also affect comfort. If regular use throughout more of the year is important, compare our insulated summer houses rather than choosing purely on floor size.

Can a 10×10 Summerhouse Be Used as a Garden Office?

Yes. Around 100 square feet of nominal floor area can provide a very practical compact office. Depending on the position of the doors and windows, there should be room for a proper desk and office chair, along with shelving, storage, or occasional seating. If you plan to work there regularly throughout the year, however, I would give insulation, glazing, heating, ventilation, electrics and internet connectivity as much consideration as the 10ft x 10ft dimensions.

A Good 10ft by 10ft Summer House Needs a Good Base

I have been saying this for decades: a good garden building needs a good base. Your summerhouse should sit on a firm, flat and level foundation suitable for the exact building you choose. An unsuitable or uneven base can affect the way the building sits and can lead to problems with doors and windows.

Do not prepare a base solely from the words “10ft x 10ft”. Check the precise manufacturer’s dimensions before work begins. Our summer house base guide explains the main considerations, and we can also help with garden building base and installation services.

Professional Fitting Included

One of the advantages of buying your summerhouse from 1st Choice is that professional installation or assembly is included with the relevant ranges shown on this page, subject to the individual model, delivery area, suitable access and a correctly prepared base. That removes one of the biggest jobs involved in buying a substantial timber building and means the building is erected by people familiar with its construction.

If you are unsure about access, the base or what needs to be ready before delivery, please contact us before ordering. It is far better to resolve practical questions in advance.

See a Summer House Before You Buy

I have always believed that seeing a garden building in person is one of the best ways to judge its quality. Photographs are useful, but at a display site you can walk inside, feel the floor beneath your feet, operate the doors, inspect the timber and framing, judge the headroom and get a much better impression of the usable internal space.

You are welcome to visit our Surrey garden building display site between Guildford, Woking and Ripley. We cannot display every size and model. Still, representative buildings make it much easier to compare construction, layouts and specifications before committing to your own 10ft x 10ft summer house.

Frequently Asked Questions About 10×10 Summerhouses

How big is a 10ft x 10ft summer house?

A nominal 10ft x 10ft summer house covers around 100 square feet or approximately 9.3 square metres. Always check the exact external, internal and required base dimensions for the individual model before preparing your site or buying furniture.

Is a 10×10 summerhouse a good size?

For many gardens, yes. Its square proportions provide enough room for comfortable seating, hobbies, entertaining, or a practical desk area without taking up the footprint of a much larger garden building. Mark the dimensions out in your garden first to make sure the size feels right for your particular space.

What can I fit inside a 10ft by 10ft summer house?

The exact layout depends on the model, doors, windows and your furniture. Still, a 10ft by 10ft summer house can normally accommodate substantial seating or a table, plus additional shelving, hobby equipment, or a desk. Planning the furniture before ordering can also help you decide where you want the doors and windows positioned.

Can I buy an insulated 10 x 10 summerhouse?

Yes. 10×10 options with insulation are available, as well as fully insulated buildings. If insulation is important, compare the individual specifications carefully, because an insulated summerhouse and a purpose-designed, fully insulated garden room are not necessarily constructed the same way.

Can a 10ft x 10ft summer house be made bespoke?

Bespoke options are available on selected ranges and can include changes to dimensions, doors, windows, height and layout. If a standard design is nearly right but not quite what you need, please tell us what you would like to change, and we can explain what is possible before you order.

Can I have storage with my 10×10 summerhouse?

Selected buildings can incorporate an additional storage area or partition. If you want one garden building to provide both leisure space and secure garden storage, it is worth planning the two uses together from the beginning. You can also explore our wider range of summer houses if a different overall footprint would give you a better balance of room and storage.

Do I need planning permission for a 10×10 summerhouse?

Many domestic garden buildings can be installed under permitted development rights, but this depends on factors including the property, location, overall height, position within the garden and intended use. Do not assume that the 10ft x 10ft footprint alone determines whether permission is needed. Read our summer house planning permission guide and check with your local planning authority where necessary.

Is fitting really included with these summer houses?

Professional fitting or assembly is included on the applicable ranges displayed, subject to the model, delivery area, access and site requirements. Check the individual product specification for the exact terms applying to the building you choose.

My Advice Before Choosing Your 10×10 Summerhouse

After working with timber garden buildings since 1979, my advice is still quite simple: decide what you genuinely want the building to do, compare the specifications rather than just the photographs, prepare the right base and see representative buildings in person whenever you can. A 10 x 10 summerhouse is an extremely useful size, but the best one for you is the building whose construction, layout, and specification suit how you intend to use it.

Craig, the team and I are here to explain the differences rather than automatically steer you towards the most expensive option. If you tell us how you plan to use your summerhouse, we can help you compare the relevant Diamond, Platinum and Royal choices, insulation, corner layouts, bespoke options, bases and installation.
