When choosing a summer building, you need to check the specifications to ensure it will have the strength to last. So always check out the thickness of the timber, whether it’s made from redwood or the cheap inferior whitewood, how thick the framing is etc. Are the doors and windows joinery made, meaning they will last a long time? Does it has toughened glass for safety or imperfect horticultural glass, plastic or perspex? All important questions.
On many of the buildings available on the web, you will find that they will deliver them to your house and leave them for you to build. You can save a little money this way, but you will have to build it yourself. That’s OK if you are a good DIYer, but it will still be hard work. The best option is to take advantage of 1st Choice’s FREE assembly option on the Diamond and Platinum buildings. They will do all the hard work – all you need to do is build a level base for it to go onto. And they can even arrange that for you as well if you wish. This way, you can be sure your new building will be built correctly, and all you need to do is enjoy it.
We have a large range of

To make the most of your new building, it’s a good idea to have it
lined and insulated to get the most use out of you all year round. Doing so will keep the building cooler in summer and warmer in winter. It’s possible to do this yourself if you feel confident. However, there is an option to do this for you on all the
Platinum buildings. It can be seen as a luxury, but you will be glad you did on those hot summer days or cold winter days. Just contact us, and we will arrange a free quote for you.
We provide a protective treatment on all our buildings but why not consider one painted with Sadolin (Diamond Buildings) or Valtti (Platinum Buildings) paints. Both are available in a range of colours so you find a colour to suit you. You can find more details about

The common garden building – where would men be without it? It seems that men and their sheds go together like Gilbert and Sullivan, Torville and Dean, Kylie and Hot Pants and well as Love and Marriage. Ladies, as well, would be very happy in a 12×10 summerhouse if you are feeling flush.
The reason for the love of sheds is down to many things, it’s maybe the peace and quiet, or maybe because its away from the house and the everyday going on’s. Maybe it’s because it can be shared with their friend with a few beers and watch a little telly or is it the primal urge from the stone ages when all men wanted was a safe and secure cave. Today, maybe something like these ones 12×10 summer houses taking the place of the cave.
The truth of the matter no one really knows and men, being men, don’t really care. They know what they like and enjoy and their garden building fits the bill on all fronts. They may not have the luxuries from indoors but that’s not important. Not having all the gizmos from indoors is actually good. In their cave one can actually think what to do and remember what it was like before the latest ‘must have’ arrived in the home. And it’s actually good.
I’m not suggesting we are going back to the 50’s but then men and the UK population were more content with their lot. When they wanted something it had to be saved up for and then bought. No slapping in on the ‘plastic’ and then being hit with large monthly payments and high interest rates. Clearly it was a more innocent time and, in my view, a less selfish time.
Besides the relaxing nature of the man’s shed it’s believed that it can make men live longer because of the therapeutic qualities relaxing gives. This activity also helps lower blood pressure, except maybe when watching the England football team on the TV, and helps to improve confidence levels. Alan White, who is a professor at Leeds Metropolitan University’s even goes as far as saying it can add several years to a man’s health. Clearly a ‘win win’ all round.
Because men feel so relaxed in the shed environment they are known to discuss health issues more openly. There are even ‘men’s shed’ group where men, mainly retired it must be said, where their shortcomings on the health front are more likely to be taken in. The general idea filtered over from Australia where it is quite common. The Men’s Health Forum is backing this initiative as well as several voluntary organisations.
Another positive for a garden summerhouse or shed (and ideal size is 12×10 as this gives room for all activities) is that, after you have bought it, there is not a mortgage to pay on it. This truly give a man a sense of freedom from bills as well as from the busy world most of us live in.
Clearly men do get some ideas right and the garden shed is one of their major successes. So much so that many women are getting in on the act and demanding a shed, but more likely really want a summer building, of their own. Where will it end as surely man should be entitled to something just for them. I believe they call this progress!!
