An 8×8 log cabin is one of the more compact garden cabin sizes. A nominal footprint of around 2.4m x 2.4m gives you a useful enclosed room while keeping the amount of garden required relatively modest. I normally suggest deciding first what you want to put inside the cabin. A desk and chair need different space from hobby equipment, storage cupboards or comfortable seating. I left school at 15 and started my own garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I was involved directly with making, selling and supplying timber garden buildings, which gave me practical knowledge that cannot be gained simply by looking at products on a website.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money I was due from the sale. By 1992 we had broadened our range to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins, and that new direction led to the business becoming Titan Garden Buildings.
My son Craig joined us in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990. We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and, in 2000, decided that rather than manufacturing only our own buildings we would retail carefully selected quality products from other manufacturers. That was when we formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Today Craig runs the day-to-day business and I continue to support him and the team whenever required. I have always believed you should see the quality of a garden building before spending your money whenever practical. Photographs are useful, but they cannot properly show how substantial a floor feels, how smoothly doors operate, the quality of the timber or how much usable space you have once you stand inside. 8×8 is normally a nominal size description. Check the detailed dimensions on the individual product before preparing a base or deciding exactly where the cabin will sit. Allow sufficient room around the building for construction, roof overhangs, maintenance and treatment as appropriate.
Think about how the cabin components will reach the proposed base. Gates, narrow paths, steps, walls, fences, tight corners and restricted parking can all affect delivery or installation. It is much better to identify an access problem before ordering than on the day the building arrives.
