Diamond vs Platinum Summerhouses – Which One Is Right For You

Our Diamond and Platinum summerhouses are both designed to provide an attractive and practical garden room, but they suit different requirements and budgets. Diamond offers excellent value, a wide choice of traditional and contemporary designs and extensive bespoke options, while Platinum provides a higher specification with pressure-treated construction and professional insulation options for customers planning more regular use.

Diamond or Platinum: The Simple Choice

Choose Diamond if you want a quality summerhouse primarily for relaxing, entertaining or hobbies, and your priorities are value, design choice and bespoke flexibility.

Choose Platinum if you expect to use your summerhouse more regularly and value pressure-treated construction, professional insulation options, larger sizes or the potential to create a more comfortable home office, studio or hobby room.

Neither range is automatically better. The right choice depends on how often you intend to use your summerhouse and whether the additional Platinum specification will provide a genuine benefit. If your building will mainly be enjoyed on pleasant days, Diamond may provide everything you need; if it will become a regularly used garden room, Platinum is worth the additional consideration.

Why Choose a 6ft x 6ft Summer House?

A 6ft x 6ft summer house has a nominal footprint of approximately 36 square feet, or around 3.3 square metres. That makes this size particularly useful in smaller gardens where you want somewhere comfortable to sit without losing too much lawn, patio or planting space.

For me, a 6 x 6 summerhouse is best considered a compact leisure room rather than somewhere to fill with furniture. Two comfortable chairs and a small table can work very well, perhaps with a shelf or modest amount of storage depending on the position of the doors and windows.

A 6ft by 6ft summer house can make an excellent reading room, hobby space, coffee retreat or somewhere sheltered from which to enjoy your garden. If you need a permanent desk, substantial office chair and lots of storage, I would normally suggest comparing a larger summer house or one of our garden rooms and offices.

Why Corner Summerhouses Work So Well at 6×6

One reason I like this particular size is that the dedicated summerhouses currently shown here are corner designs. A corner summerhouse can turn an awkward or underused part of the garden into useful leisure space while leaving more of the lawn or patio open.

The angled frontage also directs the doors and glazing back across the garden rather than simply towards a boundary. Before deciding on the final position, I recommend standing where the building will go and looking back across your garden. Even a small change in angle can make a noticeable difference to the view you enjoy from inside.

If making good use of an unused garden corner is particularly important, you can also compare our wider selection of corner summer houses.

Which 6×6 Summerhouses Are Available?

The current category includes three dedicated summerhouse choices: the Platinum Bursledon Corner Summer House, Platinum Hamble Corner and Diamond Worthing Corner. It also includes the Storrington Corner Shed, which starts at approximately 6×6 but is principally a storage building rather than a leisure summerhouse.

If your main aim is somewhere to sit, read, relax or enjoy the garden, I would compare the Bursledon, Hamble and Worthing first. If attractive garden storage and efficient use of a corner are more important, the Storrington deserves consideration.

Platinum Bursledon Corner Summer House

The Platinum Bursledon starts at approximately 6×6 and is also available in larger sizes. It includes professional assembly, with colour finish and full insulation options currently available. I would consider the insulation option if you expect to spend longer periods in the building or want to extend its useful season beyond traditional summer use.

Platinum Hamble Corner Summerhouse

The Platinum Hamble is another 6ft x 6ft summerhouse option and offers a different design from the Bursledon. Professional assembly is included, with colour choices and a full insulation option available. I would compare the two Platinum models according to their appearance, roof design, outlook and specification rather than simply choosing on price.

Diamond Worthing Corner Summer House

The Diamond Worthing is a traditional corner summerhouse with professional installation, colour finish choices and bespoke options. I particularly like it for customers who want an attractive leisure summerhouse and value flexibility without necessarily requiring the additional specification available from the Platinum range.

Storrington Corner Shed

The Storrington should be considered differently because it is fundamentally a corner shed rather than a dedicated summerhouse. It can be a sensible choice when attractive garden storage and efficient use of a corner are more important than creating somewhere principally intended for sitting and relaxing.

What Should You Look for When Buying a 6×6 Summerhouse?

After working with garden buildings since 1979, I always encourage customers to look beyond the photograph and headline price. Two 6×6 summerhouses can look remarkably similar online while being very different when you examine how they are actually constructed.

Look at the timber and cladding, framing, floor construction, roof, doors, glazing, treatment and exactly what is included in the price. A compact summerhouse is still a substantial timber building, so construction quality matters just as much at 6ft x 6ft as it does with a much larger garden building.

I also believe strongly in seeing garden buildings before buying whenever practical. You can visit our Surrey garden building display site to inspect representative buildings, compare construction and talk through your requirements with us.

Diamond or Platinum for a 6ft by 6ft Summer House?

I would choose between Diamond and Platinum according to how you genuinely intend to use the building. I would not automatically assume that the more expensive option is the right choice.

The Diamond Worthing makes good sense for conventional summerhouse use such as relaxing, reading, hobbies or entertaining, particularly if you value bespoke flexibility. The Platinum Bursledon and Hamble deserve closer consideration if you want their different specification or the option of full insulation for more regular use outside the traditional summer season.

If a Diamond summerhouse gives you everything you need, I would rather tell you that than encourage you to spend money on features from which you will receive little practical benefit.

Can a 6×6 Summerhouse Be Insulated?

Yes, depending on the individual model. The Platinum Bursledon and Platinum Hamble currently offer full insulation options. Insulation can be useful if you intend to spend longer periods inside the summerhouse or want to extend its useful season beyond the warmer months.

Remember that insulation slows heat transfer; it does not create heat. If you intend to use a summerhouse regularly during colder weather you may still require suitable heating. If your main requirement is a genuine year-round office, I would compare the specification with one of our garden rooms and offices before ordering.

Does a 6ft x 6ft Summer House Need a Proper Base?

Absolutely. I have been saying for decades that a good garden building needs a good base. Even a relatively compact 6ft x 6ft summer house requires a firm, flat and level foundation if its doors are to operate correctly and the building is to perform as intended.

Do not prepare the base purely from the description “6×6”. Always check the precise external dimensions and base requirements for the individual model because nominal sizes, roof overhangs and the clearance required around a building can differ.

FREE Fitting on Our 6×6 Summerhouses

Professional fitting, assembly or installation is included with the Diamond and Platinum 6×6 summerhouses currently shown on this page, according to the individual range and subject to the applicable delivery, access and base requirements. That forms an important part of the overall value because you are not left with the job of putting together a substantial timber building yourself.

You will still need to ensure that suitable access and the correct base are available before delivery. Always check the individual product page for the precise fitting, access and delivery requirements applying to your chosen building.

Why My Experience with Garden Buildings Matters

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I think it is important that customers know who is behind the advice they are reading. My involvement with garden buildings began in 1979, and much of what I recommend today comes from first-hand experience of manufacturing, selling and supplying timber buildings rather than simply reading manufacturers’ brochures.

I left school at 15 and in 1979 started my own business trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I made buildings, sold them, delivered them and dealt directly with customers. That practical experience taught me how timber buildings go together, which parts of the specification really matter and where apparently small savings can sometimes become false economies.

From Marina Sheds to Titan Garden Buildings

I sold Marina Sheds in 1990. Unfortunately, I did not receive all of the money I was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it certainly did not end my involvement with garden buildings.

By 1992 we had expanded beyond traditional sheds and added summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. Because the business was no longer principally about sheds, that new direction led to a change of name to Titan Garden Buildings.

My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990. His carpentry training brought additional practical woodworking knowledge and an understanding of timber construction into the business, and from that point onwards garden buildings became very much a father-and-son concern.

Forming 1st Choice Leisure Buildings

We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998. In 2000 Craig and I decided that rather than manufacturing everything ourselves or being restricted to one manufacturer’s range, we would retail carefully selected quality products from established garden building manufacturers. That decision led to the formation of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings.

Our manufacturing background has always influenced how we assess other manufacturers’ buildings. We know to look carefully at framing, timber, floors, roofs, doors, glazing and overall construction rather than relying purely on attractive photographs or sales descriptions.

Today Craig runs the day-to-day business and I remain involved to support him and the team whenever required. You can read more about Craig, me and our history on the About 1st Choice Leisure Buildings page.

What More Than 45 Years Has Taught Me About Small Summerhouses

The first lesson is not to underestimate a compact building. A well-positioned 6 x 6 summerhouse can transform an otherwise awkward or unused part of a garden into somewhere you genuinely enjoy spending time.

The second is not to overfill it. Two comfortable chairs and a small table will often make much better use of a 6ft by 6ft summer house than trying to squeeze in a sofa, substantial desk, cupboards and lots of storage.

The third is to think carefully about the outlook before preparing your base. With a corner summerhouse in particular, the view from inside is part of the enjoyment, so decide where you want the frontage to face before anything becomes permanent.

Finally, buy the specification you actually need. There is little point paying for insulation and additional features if your summerhouse will only be used occasionally on fine summer days. Equally, if you want more regular use outside the warmer months, it makes sense to consider those options from the beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions About 6×6 Summerhouses

How big is a 6ft x 6ft summer house?

A 6ft x 6ft summer house has a nominal footprint of approximately 36 square feet, around 3.3 square metres or roughly 1.8m x 1.8m. Always use the exact dimensions shown for the individual model when arranging the base or deciding what furniture will fit.

What can I fit inside a 6 x 6 summerhouse?

A typical 6 x 6 summerhouse can accommodate two comfortable chairs and a small table, with limited room remaining for shelving, hobby equipment or storage. Compact furniture generally works better than trying to use every available part of the floor.

Is a 6×6 summerhouse suitable for a small garden?

Yes. That is one of the main advantages of this size. A 6×6 summerhouse creates useful sheltered leisure space while taking up relatively little garden, and a corner design can make particularly efficient use of an awkward or otherwise underused area.

Can a 6ft x 6ft summerhouse be insulated?

Yes, depending on the model. The Platinum Bursledon and Platinum Hamble currently offer full insulation options. If extended-season use is important to you, compare the precise insulation and overall construction specification before ordering.

Is fitting included with a 6ft by 6ft summer house?

Professional fitting, assembly or installation is currently included with the Diamond and Platinum summerhouses shown on this page, subject to the individual product, delivery area, access and base requirements. Always check your chosen product page for the precise terms applying to that building.

Do I need planning permission for a 6×6 summerhouse?

Many small garden buildings can be installed under permitted development rights, but this depends on factors including the property, position, height and proximity to boundaries. Listed properties, designated land and other circumstances can have additional restrictions, so check the requirements applying to your property with the relevant local planning authority when necessary.

My Final Advice on Choosing a 6×6 Summerhouse

A 6ft by 6ft summer house is compact, but it can make a surprisingly large difference to the way you enjoy your garden. Think carefully about what you want to do inside it, where the doors and windows face, the furniture you intend to use and whether options such as insulation will provide genuine value for you.

After working with garden buildings since 1979, my advice remains to look beyond photographs and price. Check the timber, floor, roof, framing, glazing and complete specification, and choose the building which best suits the way you genuinely intend to use it.

If possible, visit our Surrey display site to compare representative garden buildings in person. If you cannot visit, contact us and tell us what you need from your summerhouse. Craig, the team and I would much rather help you choose the correct size and specification before you buy.
