What Makes the Lidget Apex 20 Special?

For me, the roof is what sets the Lidget Apex 20 apart. Its 20-degree pitch creates a stronger, more traditional roofline, while the Metrotile pantile-style covering gives the building an appearance that can work particularly well when the garage is close to your home or clearly visible from the driveway.

This is therefore a model I would consider when appearance matters as well as practicality. If the garage is going to be a prominent part of your property, the extra character of the roof can make a worthwhile difference.

A 20-Degree Metrotile Roof

The roof is built on timber purlins, lined with tough felt and finished with Metrotile pantile-style tiles. There are six roof colours to choose from, giving you the opportunity to select something that works with your house and surroundings rather than accepting a single standard colour.

The Metrotile roof tiles have a 40-year guarantee, subject to the manufacturer’s terms. Timber fascias and vergeboards are included, while guttering and downpipes are optional if you want to control where rainwater is collected and discharged.

Plan the Space for the Years Ahead

The Apex 20 is available in a wide range of sizes, including single, twin and double configurations. This gives you plenty of scope whether the main purpose is parking, storage, a workshop or a combination of uses.

I always suggest allowing for more than the car itself. Think about opening vehicle doors comfortably, walking around the car and where bicycles, tools, gardening equipment, shelving or a workbench might go. What seems like spare space when you order can become very useful a few years later.

Doors, Windows and Convenient Access

A fully framed and retractable Hörmann horizontal-ribbed up-and-over door is included, together with a 4ft fixed window. Alternative main doors, additional windows and separate personal access doors are available if you want to adapt the building around the way you will use it.

If you intend to use the garage regularly for storage or as a workshop, I would give serious thought to a personal door. Being able to walk in without opening the main vehicle door is one of those relatively simple choices that can make the building much more convenient in everyday use.

Make the Internal Space Work Harder

Additional fixed or opening windows can provide more natural light and ventilation, while a partition can be used to separate different areas of a larger building. This can be particularly useful if you want vehicle space on one side and a cleaner workshop or storage area on the other.

Extra height is also available. If you have a taller vehicle or a particular use in mind, it is much better to consider the required clearance before ordering rather than discover afterwards that you could have used more headroom.

Start with the Right Concrete Base

A correctly prepared base is essential. It needs to be flat, square, level and built to the required dimensions so the garage can be installed properly. I would never recommend trying to save money by compromising on the foundation beneath a substantial building.

Two Guarantees Worth Knowing About

The Lidget Apex 20 comes with a 10-year structural guarantee which is transferable if you move home, subject to the manufacturer’s terms. In addition, the Metrotile roof tiles have their own 40-year guarantee.

I think that distinction is useful because the roof is one of the main reasons for choosing this particular model. You are not simply choosing it for appearance; the roof covering itself also comes with long-term manufacturer backing.

Apex 20 or Apex 15?

If you are deciding between these two models, I would start with the roof. The Apex 20 has a steeper 20-degree pitch with Metrotile pantile-style tiles, whereas the Apex 15 has a lower 15-degree roof with a bold-roll tile-effect fibre-cement covering.

Neither choice is automatically right for everybody. If you particularly like the stronger roofline and Metrotile appearance, I would favour the Apex 20. If those features are less important, it makes sense to compare the alternatives rather than paying for something you don’t especially value.

If the roof appearance isn’t important to you, I would compare the other Apex models before deciding. My preference is always to spend money on features that make a genuine difference to how the building looks or how you will use it.
