Good Enough Gardening
Good Enough Gardening started in 2009 and was a little different at the time when gardening blogs were the order of the day. Set up by Jean Ann Van Krevelen, garden author and social media subversive, and joined by Amanda Thomsen (AKA Kiss My Aster). Concentrating on pod casts they developed a great following who tuned into their ideas, thoughts and suggestions.
Their motto was ‘Good Enough Gardening is a new gardening pod cast that offers organic gardening tips and information about gardening in containers, as well as perennial gardening and vegetable gardening conversation and resources. Our motto is: Embrace the Perfection of an Imperfect Garden!’ so was a great basis for their success over the years.
The following paragraphs describe what other parties were saying about them. And it shows what a breath of fresh air there were at the time and right through to 2014 with their web site online long after that.
This blog is actually a pod cast hosted by the author of Grocery Gardening and the author of the Horticulture magazine blog, Kiss My Aster. Jean Ann and Amanda have taken me on as their “Junior Correspondent,” and I occasionally have a guest spot on their pod cast. It’s a lot of fun, with some off-colour language and good gardening information.
Two women, Jean Ann Krevelen and Amanda Thomsen, discuss gardening and their lives in general. They are upbeat and funny, but they tend to get off-topic and meander. Not necessarily a bad thing! What I like about them is that they aren’t about doing things perfectly. They make gardening accessible. They also have a hotline for questions and comments.
By combining our expertise of over 40 years in the garden buildings industry with Good Enough Gardening then hopefully we can build on their great work.

Home Gardening – Is This For Us?
Home gardening and refers to any small activity that you carry around the house from watering the flowers and misting fertilisers or insecticides to lawn mowing or indoor hydroponics gardening, implementing shed plans for your equipment. Gardening is a popular occupation, and for lots of good reasons: some people want to go organic, others consider gardening a relaxing activity and a smaller percentage turn it into a lucrative occupation. Others reasons can certainly be identified here too.
An earth-friendly attitude more easily finds expression in home gardening. When you do home gardening to cover the needs of the household, it goes without saying that the use of pesticides and insecticides will be minimum if not inexistent. As for flowers they are usually planted for their beauty.
Local department stores sell most of the materials necessary for home gardening. It would be a poor investment to buy all the tools available. It is actually comfortable and pleasant to keep the activities simple. These are the most important aspects of all. Even shoes and gloves have their role in protecting the gardener by enhancing the comfort level. The actual tools should be chosen depending on whether you grow vegetables, herbs or flowers. And these can be stored in your garden workshop, if you have one, or under the stairs (Harry Potter style).
Make a list of supplies before you go shopping and then go to the house and garden store or search online. In case you need something for landscaping purposes, then you may have to try the outdoor decorations section of such stores. Magazines, web sites and online forums could make viable recommendations for home gardening, and it doesn’t hurt to take a look. On the average, such materials will answer pressing questions or solve your dilemmas.
You decide how complex or simple home gardening should be. You can cultivate the entire garden or have just one bed to look after. Even so, having a garden does not necessarily force you to take up gardening all the same. You can hire someone to trim the hedges and cut the grass as you may not have the time or the disposition to ‘get dirty’. Consequently, home gardening is an occupation you love. Whether productive or just enjoyable, gardening could become the perfect refuge from a stressful world.
