More Than 45 Years of First-Hand Garden Building Experience
I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started in the garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. Those early years gave me practical experience of manufacturing and selling timber buildings and, just as importantly, taught me how much difference there can be between buildings which initially appear quite similar.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money that was due from the sale. It was a difficult lesson, but I continued in the garden building industry. In 1992 we expanded beyond sheds to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins, and that broader direction led to the business becoming Titan Garden Buildings.
My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990. His carpentry background gave him a useful practical understanding of timber construction, which complemented my own manufacturing and business experience. We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and, in 2000, decided to take a different approach by retailing quality garden buildings from manufacturers whose products we were happy to put our name behind. That was the beginning of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings.
Today Craig runs the day-to-day business, and I support him and the team as required. The names and technology have changed considerably since I started in 1979. Still, my basic approach has not: understand what the customer needs, explain the specification clearly and recommend the appropriate building rather than automatically trying to sell the most expensive one.
