Is a 10×10 Garden Room Big Enough for a Home Office?
For one person, a 10×10 garden office provides a generous amount of working space. There is normally room for a substantial desk, office chair, monitors and storage while still leaving space for an armchair, small meeting table or another activity.
A nominal 10ft x 10ft building gives approximately 100 square feet, or around 9.3 square metres, of nominal floor area. The finished internal dimensions will be smaller because of the framing, insulation and internal lining, so always check the measurements for the individual model before planning furniture.
Why the 10ft x 10ft Square Layout Works Well
One of the reasons I like a 10ft x 10ft garden room is the square footprint. You are not forced to arrange everything along one long wall, which gives you considerably more freedom when positioning desks, cupboards, shelving or seating.
The square shape can also make the room easier to adapt later. A garden office today could become a hobby room, studio, exercise space or general leisure room in future without the proportions restricting what you can do with it.
Can Two People Work in a 10 x 10 Office?
Yes. A 10 x 10 office can work very well for two people when desks and storage are planned properly. Two desks can sit on separate walls, side by side or facing one another depending on the layout of the doors and windows.
If both users need particularly large desks, several monitors, substantial filing or a separate meeting area, I would still consider a larger garden room before ordering. For normal home-office furniture, however, 10×10 is a capable two-person size.
Should a 10×10 Garden Office Be Insulated?
If you intend to work in the building regularly throughout the year, consider an insulated specification. I would also look beyond the word “insulated” and compare exactly what is included in the walls, floor and roof, together with the doors and glazing.

My Garden Building Experience Since 1979
I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my own garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I was directly involved in making, selling and supplying timber garden buildings, which taught me to look at how a building is actually constructed rather than simply how attractive it appears in a photograph.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money I was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it did not end my involvement with garden buildings.
By 1992 we had expanded beyond traditional sheds to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins, and that wider direction led to the name Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his practical carpentry knowledge into the family business.
We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and in 2000 formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Rather than being restricted to one manufacturer’s products, Craig and I wanted to use our experience to select quality buildings from different manufacturers and give customers a genuine choice. Why Specification Matters on a 10×10 Garden Room
After working with garden buildings since 1979, I’ve learnt that two 10×10 rooms can look remarkably similar online while being quite different when you compare the framing, cladding, flooring, roof, doors, glazing, insulation and internal finish.
I don’t believe the cheapest garden room is automatically the best value, and the most expensive is not automatically the right choice either. The sensible approach is to decide how often you will use the building, what you want it to do and then choose a specification appropriate for that use.
10×10 or 10×8 Garden Office?
A 10×10 garden room has a nominal 100 square feet compared with 80 square feet for a 10×8, giving you approximately 20 square feet of additional nominal floor area. That extra space can make a noticeable difference when you want two desks, more storage or an additional chair or meeting area.

10×10 or 12×10 Garden Room?
If your garden and budget allow, a 12×10 room gives you another 20 square feet of nominal floor area compared with 10×10. That additional length can be useful if you want to separate two workstations, create a distinct seating area or combine office and hobby uses within the same room.

Preparing the Base for a 10×10 Garden Room
A good garden room needs a firm, flat and level foundation suitable for the particular building. Don’t prepare the base based on the nominal 10×10 description alone, because exact external footprints vary between models. Always work from the manufacturer’s precise dimensions for the building you order.
