Why Choose a 7ft x 7ft Summer House?

A 7ft x 7ft summer house has a nominal footprint of approximately 49 square feet, or around 4.55 square metres. The square shape gives you useful depth as well as width, making this size surprisingly versatile while remaining manageable in many smaller and medium-sized gardens.

For me, a 7 x 7 summerhouse is large enough to become a proper garden retreat rather than simply somewhere to place a couple of chairs. You could comfortably create a seating area for two or more people, add a small table, and still have space for books, hobby equipment, or modest storage, depending on the door and window positions.

A 7ft by 7ft summer house can make an excellent reading room, hobby room or place to entertain. If your main requirement is regular home working throughout the year, I would also compare one of our garden rooms and offices, where insulation and year-round comfort can become more important.

Why a Square 7×7 Summerhouse Works So Well

One advantage of a 7×7 footprint is that you are not dealing with a particularly narrow building. Roughly equal width and depth give you more freedom when positioning chairs, a table, or hobby furniture, and can make the interior feel more spacious than a shallower building with a similar floor area.

I recommend marking out approximately 7ft x 7ft on the ground before ordering and putting your intended furniture inside the marked area. It is one of the simplest ways to decide whether the size will work for you and often tells you more than looking at dimensions on a screen.

Which 7×7 Summerhouses Are Available?

The current category contains three dedicated corner summerhouse choices: the Platinum Bursledon Corner Summer House, Platinum Hamble Corner and Diamond Worthing Corner. It also contains the Storrington Corner Shed, which is primarily designed for garden storage rather than as a leisure summerhouse.

If your main requirement is somewhere to sit, relax, read or enjoy the garden, I would concentrate first on the Bursledon, Hamble and Worthing. If storage is more important but you still want an attractive building which fits neatly into a garden corner, the Storrington is worth considering.

Platinum Bursledon 7×7 Corner Summer House

The Platinum Bursledon is available in 7×7 and a range of other sizes. Professional assembly is included, with colour finish and full insulation options currently available. I would give the insulation option serious consideration if you intend to use the building regularly beyond the warmer months rather than simply as a conventional summer retreat.

Platinum Hamble 7ft x 7ft Summerhouse

The Platinum Hamble provides another higher-specification corner option at this size, with professional assembly included and choices including colour finishes and full insulation. I would compare its design, frontage, and roof with the Bursledon and decide which works best with the outlook from your garden, rather than choosing solely on price.

Diamond Worthing 7×7 Corner Summerhouse

The Diamond Worthing is a traditional timber corner summerhouse with professional installation, paint finish choices and bespoke options. It can make particularly good sense if you want a quality leisure summerhouse with flexibility but do not necessarily require the full insulation option offered by the Platinum designs.

Storrington 7×7 Corner Shed

The Storrington should be considered separately because it is fundamentally a corner shed rather than a dedicated leisure summerhouse. It can be an attractive solution where practical garden storage and efficient use of a corner are the main priorities.

Why Corner Summerhouses Suit a 7×7 Footprint

The dedicated summerhouses currently shown on this page are corner designs, and the square 7×7 footprint suits this style particularly well. Instead of sacrificing a useful part of the lawn or patio, you can often position the building in a garden corner which might otherwise be underused.

The angled frontage also allows the doors and windows to face back into the garden. Before preparing a base, stand in the proposed position and look across your garden. A small change in orientation can make a considerable difference to the view and the amount of sunlight entering the building.

You can also compare these models with our wider range of corner summer houses or return to our complete collection of summer houses.

What Should You Look for When Buying a 7×7 Summerhouse?

After working with garden buildings since 1979, I always advise customers to look beyond the headline price and attractive photographs. Two 7×7 summerhouses can appear remarkably similar online while differing considerably in their construction and specification.

Look at the timber and cladding, framing, floor, roof, doors, glazing, treatment and exactly what is included in the price. Also consider how you genuinely intend to use the building. There is little benefit in paying for features you will never need, but buying too lightly for regular or extended-season use can prove equally disappointing.

Whenever practical, I recommend seeing garden buildings before buying. You can visit our Surrey garden building display site to inspect representative buildings at full size, compare construction and finishes and talk through your requirements with us.

Diamond or Platinum for a 7ft by 7ft Summer House?

I would choose between Diamond and Platinum according to how you intend to use the building rather than automatically assuming the more expensive option must be better for you.

The Diamond Worthing makes good sense for conventional summerhouse use such as relaxing, reading, entertaining or hobbies and also offers useful bespoke flexibility. The Platinum Bursledon and Hamble deserve closer consideration when you want a different specification and, in particular, the option of full insulation for more regular use outside the warmer months.

If a Diamond building gives you everything you require, I would rather tell you that than encourage you to pay for features which will provide little practical benefit. Similarly, if insulation genuinely matters to how you will use your summerhouse, it is usually better to consider it before ordering.

Can a 7×7 Summerhouse Be Insulated?

Yes, depending on the model. The Platinum Bursledon and Platinum Hamble currently offer full insulation options, which can be useful when you want to extend the amount of time you can comfortably spend in your building beyond conventional summer use.

Insulation slows heat transfer but does not create heat, so you may still need suitable heating during colder weather. If you require a genuine year-round office or highly insulated room, I would compare the specification with our garden rooms and offices before making your decision.

Can a 7×7 Summerhouse Be Bespoke?

Bespoke options are available on suitable buildings, particularly within the Diamond range. Depending on the model, alterations can include changes to windows, doors, dimensions and other aspects of the design.

If the standard 7ft x 7ft summer house is nearly right but one aspect does not suit your garden, what can be changed rather than automatically accepting a compromise? You can contact us and explain what you need before ordering.

Does a 7ft x 7ft Summer House Need a Proper Base?

Absolutely. I have been saying for decades that a good garden building needs a good base. A 7×7 summerhouse needs a firm, flat and level foundation so that the structure remains correctly supported and the doors operate as intended.

Do not prepare the foundation solely from the nominal description “7×7”. Always check the exact base dimensions and installation requirements for the individual model, as nominal sizes, manufacturing dimensions, and roof overhangs can differ.

FREE Fitting on Our 7×7 Summerhouses

Professional fitting, assembly or installation is included with the Diamond and Platinum 7×7 summerhouses currently shown on this page, according to the individual range and subject to the applicable delivery, access and base requirements.

This is an important part of the overall value. You don’t have to spend your weekend trying to assemble a sizeable timber building, and the experienced fitting team can erect it according to the manufacturer’s requirements. You need to ensure that suitable access and the correct level base are available before delivery.

Why My Garden Building Experience Matters

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I believe customers should know who is behind the advice they are reading. My experience with garden buildings started in 1979 and comes from manufacturing, selling, delivering, and supplying timber buildings, rather than simply selling products from a website.

I left school at 15 and started my own business in 1979 trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I made buildings, sold them, delivered them and dealt directly with customers. That practical experience taught me how timber buildings go together, where strength matters and why the details hidden behind an attractive photograph can be so important.

From Marina Sheds to Titan Garden Buildings

I sold Marina Sheds in 1990. Unfortunately, I did not receive all of the money I was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it certainly did not end my involvement with garden buildings.

By 1992 we had moved beyond traditional sheds and added summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. Because the business was no longer principally about sheds, that broader direction led to a change of name to Titan Garden Buildings.

My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990. His carpentry training added further practical woodworking knowledge and an understanding of timber construction to the business, and garden buildings became a father-and-son concern.

Forming 1st Choice Leisure Buildings

We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998. In 2000, Craig and I decided that rather than manufacturing everything ourselves or being restricted to one manufacturer’s range, we would use our experience to select and retail quality products from established garden building manufacturers. That decision led to the formation of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings.

Our manufacturing background still affects how we assess garden buildings today. We look at timber, framing, floors, roofs, doors, glazing and construction because we know from first-hand experience that those details can make a genuine difference to the finished building.

Today Craig runs the day-to-day business, and I remain involved to support him and the team whenever required. You can read more about Craig, me and how the business developed on our About 1st Choice Leisure Buildings page.

What More Than 45 Years Has Taught Me About Summerhouses

One lesson I have learned is that buying the right size matters more than simply buying the largest summerhouse which will physically fit into your garden. A well-planned 7 x 7 summerhouse can provide excellent usable space without overwhelming the surrounding garden.

Think about your furniture before ordering. Mark out approximately seven feet square on the ground, place the chairs, table, or hobby furniture you intend to use within that area, and see how it feels. This simple exercise can prevent an expensive mistake.

I would also think carefully about orientation. With a corner design in particular, the position of the doors and windows influences your view, natural light and how the summerhouse relates to the rest of your garden.

Finally, buy the specification which matches the job. If you want somewhere attractive to enjoy on pleasant days, you may not need extensive upgrades. If regular colder-weather use matters, insulation and the overall construction specification become much more important.

Frequently Asked Questions About 7×7 Summerhouses

How big is a 7ft x 7ft summer house?

A 7ft x 7ft summer house has a nominal footprint of approximately 49 square feet, around 4.55 square metres or roughly 2.1m x 2.1m. Always use the exact dimensions shown for your chosen model when preparing the base or planning furniture.

What can I fit inside a 7×7 summerhouse?

A 7×7 summerhouse can comfortably accommodate a couple of chairs and a table, and depending on the design you may also have room for shelving, hobby equipment or additional compact furniture. Marking the dimensions out beforehand is the best way to judge whether it will suit your intended use.

Is a 7 x 7 summerhouse suitable for a small garden?

Yes, provided you have sufficient space around the building for installation and maintenance. Its square footprint provides useful internal space without the length of a larger rectangular summerhouse, and a corner design can use the garden more efficiently.

Can a 7ft by 7ft summer house be insulated?

Yes, depending on the model. Full insulation options are currently available on the Platinum Bursledon and Platinum Hamble. If extended-season use is important, compare the complete construction and insulation specification before ordering.

Can I have a painted 7×7 summerhouse?

Colour finish options are available on the current 7×7 summerhouse ranges, although the precise choices depend on the individual model. If an exact colour matters, I recommend checking a physical colour sample rather than relying entirely on photographs or a screen.

Is fitting included with a 7ft x 7ft summer house?

Professional fitting, assembly or installation is included with the Diamond and Platinum summerhouses currently shown on this page, subject to the individual product, delivery area, access and base requirements. Check your chosen product page for the precise terms before ordering.

Do I need planning permission for a 7×7 summerhouse?

Many garden summerhouses can be installed under permitted development rights, but the rules depend on factors including the property, location, building height and proximity to boundaries. Listed properties, designated land and other circumstances can have different requirements, so check the rules applying to your property with the relevant local planning authority when necessary.

My Final Advice on Choosing a 7×7 Summerhouse

A 7ft by 7ft summer house gives you a useful square interior without taking over the garden. Before buying, think about how you intend to use it, the furniture you want inside, where the doors and glazing will face and whether options such as insulation or bespoke alterations will provide genuine value.

After working with garden buildings since 1979, my advice remains to look beyond photographs and headline prices. Check the timber, framing, floor, roof, doors, glazing, and complete specification, and choose the building that best suits how you genuinely intend to use it.

If possible, visit our Surrey display site to compare representative garden buildings in person. If you cannot visit, contact us and explain what you need. Craig, the team and I would much rather help you choose the right building and specification before you buy.
