I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I’ve worked with garden buildings since 1979. Our current 10 x 7 summerhouse choices include traditional, Georgian and contemporary Diamond designs alongside Platinum Apex and Pent models with full insulation options, with professional fitting or assembly included subject to the individual product, delivery area, access and base requirements. Why Choose a 10ft x 7ft Summer House?

A 10ft x 7ft summer house has a nominal footprint of around 70 square feet, approximately 6.5 square metres. For me, this is a particularly useful size because the 10-foot length provides plenty of wall space, while 7 feet of depth gives you enough room to arrange proper furniture without everything feeling pushed against the walls.

A 10 x 7 summerhouse can comfortably accommodate seating and a table while still leaving useful space for shelving, hobbies or a compact desk. Depending on the design, you could create a seating area at one end and keep the other end for crafts, reading, occasional work or storage.

A 10ft by 7ft summer house can therefore make an excellent garden retreat, hobby room, entertaining space or occasional home office. If year-round work is your main requirement, I would also consider our garden rooms and garden offices, where insulation and all-season comfort become more important.

Why the 10×7 Size Is So Versatile

The seven-foot depth is one of the biggest advantages over a shallower 10×5 or 10×6 building. Once chairs, a table or a desk are inside, that extra depth gives you more freedom to move around and makes it easier to create different areas within the same room.

I recommend marking out approximately 10ft x 7ft on the ground before ordering and putting your intended furniture inside the marked area. It is a simple exercise, but it tells you far more about whether a size will work than looking at measurements on a website.

Is a 10×7 Summerhouse the Same as a 7 x 10 Summerhouse?

The same nominal measurements are being described, but I would never assume that every 10×7 and 7 x 10 summerhouse has the same orientation. A building entered from the ten-foot elevation can work very differently from one where the main doors are positioned on the seven-foot side.

The position of the doors and windows affects usable wall space, furniture layout, natural light and the view from inside. Always check the actual product drawing, confirmed external dimensions and required base size rather than ordering from the nominal size alone.

Which 10×7 Summerhouses Are Available?

The current 10×7 category contains six dedicated summerhouses. The Diamond choices are the Ashington, Bolney Georgian, Washington Classic and Keymer Contemporary. The Platinum choices are the Winchester Apex and Winchester Pent, both of which currently offer a full insulation option.

I like this selection because it gives you genuinely different choices. You can select traditional, Georgian or contemporary styling within Diamond, or move towards a higher-specification Platinum building if insulation or more regular use is important.

Diamond Ashington 10×7 Summerhouse

The Diamond Ashington is a versatile traditional summerhouse with FREE professional installation, colour finish choices and bespoke options. I would consider it if you want a straightforward timber leisure building with a conventional appearance but still want flexibility over details such as doors, windows, or finish.

Diamond Bolney Georgian 10ft x 7ft Summer House

The Diamond Bolney Georgian gives you a more decorative traditional appearance. It is worth comparing if the summerhouse will be a prominent feature in your garden and you want more character than a straightforward contemporary design. FREE professional installation, colour finish choices and bespoke options are available.

Diamond Washington Classic 10×7 Summerhouse

The Diamond Washington Classic provides another traditional choice with FREE professional assembly, colour options and bespoke alterations. I would compare its frontage, glazing and furniture layout directly with the Ashington and Bolney rather than deciding on price alone.

Diamond Keymer Contemporary 10ft x 7ft Summer House

The Diamond Keymer Contemporary is the obvious model to consider if you prefer a cleaner, more modern appearance. FREE professional installation, colour finish choices, and bespoke options let you personalise the building so it works naturally with a contemporary house or garden.

Platinum Winchester Apex 10×7 Summerhouse

The Platinum Winchester Apex provides a higher-specification alternative with a traditional central-ridge roof. Professional assembly is included, and a full insulation option is currently available. I would consider this model if you expect your summerhouse to work harder as a hobby room, occasional office or extended-season garden room.

Platinum Winchester Pent 10ft x 7ft Summer House

The Platinum Winchester Pent offers the same broad idea with a single-slope roof for a simpler appearance. Professional assembly and a full insulation option are available. The choice between Apex and Pent is largely about appearance, garden position and personal preference rather than one roof style automatically being better.

Diamond or Platinum 10×7 Summerhouse?

I would start with Diamond if your main requirement is somewhere attractive to relax, read, entertain or enjoy your garden during pleasant weather. The four Diamond designs give you plenty of choice over appearance and can also be altered on a bespoke basis where suitable.

I would look more closely at the Platinum Winchester if you want the option of full insulation or expect to spend longer periods inside throughout more of the year. That additional specification can make good sense when hobbies or occasional home working are part of the plan.

I would not automatically recommend Platinum simply because it costs more. The right value comes from buying the specification you genuinely need. If Diamond provides everything you require, I would rather tell you that than encourage you to pay for features which will provide little practical benefit.

Apex or Pent Roof on a 10ft x 7ft Summer House?

An Apex roof gives your summerhouse a traditional central ridge, while a Pent roof slopes in one direction and generally provides a simpler appearance. Both can work very well, so choose based on your garden, house, and personal taste.

Look at the roof from the position of your house as well as standing beside the summerhouse. The building will become part of the garden view, so external appearance deserves proper consideration alongside the internal space.

What Should You Look for When Buying a 10×7 Summerhouse?

After working with garden buildings since 1979, I always encourage customers to look beyond attractive photographs and headline prices. Two 10×7 summerhouses can have the same nominal footprint while differing considerably in their timber, framing, floors, roofs, doors, windows and overall construction.

Look at the complete specification and exactly what is included. Timber quality matters, but so do the frame, floor, roof, joinery, glazing and installation. I would never choose a building from one specification figure in isolation.

Whenever practical, I strongly recommend seeing garden buildings before buying. You can visit our Surrey garden building display site to inspect representative buildings at full size, compare specifications and talk through your requirements with us.

Can a 10×7 Summerhouse Be Insulated?

Yes. Both Platinum Winchester models currently offer a full insulation option, making them particularly relevant if you expect to use your 10×7 summerhouse for longer periods or outside the traditional warmer months.

I would look at the complete construction rather than simply the word “insulated”. Walls, floor, roof, doors and glazing all affect comfort. Insulation also slows heat transfer rather than creating heat, so you may still need suitable heating during colder periods.

If regular colder-weather or year-round use is especially important, compare our dedicated insulated summerhouses and our garden rooms before making your decision.

Can a 10ft by 7ft Summer House Be Used as an Office?

Yes. A 10ft by 7ft summer house has enough room for a proper desk, office chair, and some storage while still leaving space to move around. However, I would choose the building based on how often you intend to work inside it, rather than simply whether your desk will fit.

For occasional laptop use in pleasant weather, a Diamond summerhouse may be perfectly adequate. If you plan to work there regularly during autumn and winter, I would look much more closely at an insulated Platinum model or a dedicated garden office.

Can a 10×7 Summerhouse Be Made Bespoke?

Yes. Bespoke options are available on suitable models, particularly within the Diamond range. Depending on the build, alterations can include different dimensions, changes to doors and windows, and other design adjustments.

If you already know where your sofa, desk, table or shelving needs to go, tell us before ordering. Moving a door or window can sometimes transform how well the finished room works. You can contact us and explain exactly what you need.

Could You Add Storage to a 10×7 Summerhouse?

Yes, depending on the design and the overall space available. At ten feet long, a summerhouse can lend itself well to combining leisure space with a separate storage area for tools, bicycles, cushions or garden equipment.

I like combination buildings because they can solve two requirements without putting two separate structures into the garden. If storage is an important part of the project, compare our summerhouses with shed storage or ask us what can be achieved with a bespoke design.

Does a 10ft x 7ft Summer House Need a Proper Base?

Absolutely. I have been saying for decades that a good garden building needs a good base. A 10ft x 7ft summer house needs a firm, flat and level foundation suitable for the exact model you choose.

A poor base can affect how the structure sits and may cause doors and windows to operate incorrectly. Do not simply prepare a 10ft x 7ft rectangle from the category description. Always use the precise base dimensions supplied for your chosen model and allow the required fitting and maintenance clearance.

FREE Fitting on Our 10×7 Summerhouses

Professional fitting, installation or assembly is included across the six Diamond and Platinum 10×7 summerhouses currently shown on this page, described as FREE installation or FREE assembly according to the individual building and subject to delivery area, suitable access and correct base requirements.

I regard professional fitting as an important part of the overall value because you are not simply left with a large collection of timber panels to construct yourself. You still need to ensure that the fitting team can reach the site and that the correct level foundation is complete before they arrive.

Why My Garden Building Experience Matters

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I believe customers should know who is behind the advice they are reading. My involvement with garden buildings began in 1979 and comes from manufacturing, selling, delivering and supplying timber buildings rather than simply selling products online.

I left school at 15 and in 1979 started my own business trading as Marina Sheds. I was hands-on from the beginning, building, selling, delivering, and dealing directly with customers. That practical experience taught me how timber buildings are put together and why details such as framing, floors, roofs, doors and glazing matter.

From Marina Sheds to Titan Garden Buildings

I sold Marina Sheds in 1990. Unfortunately, I did not receive all the money that was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it certainly did not end my involvement with garden buildings.

By 1992 we had expanded beyond traditional sheds and added summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. Because that broader range represented a different direction for the business, we changed the name to Titan Garden Buildings.

My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990. His carpentry training brought additional practical timber and woodworking knowledge into the business, and from that point onwards garden buildings became a father-and-son concern.

Why We Formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings

We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998. In 2000, Craig and I decided that rather than manufacturing everything ourselves or being tied to one manufacturer’s products, we would use our experience to select and retail quality buildings from different established manufacturers. That decision led to the formation of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings.

That manufacturing background is still important today. We know to look beyond photographs and compare timber, framing, floors, roofs, doors, glazing and installation because we have first-hand experience of how garden buildings are actually made.

Today Craig runs the day-to-day business, and I remain involved to support him and the team whenever required. You can read more about Craig, me and our history on our About 1st Choice Leisure Buildings page.

What More Than 45 Years Has Taught Me About Choosing a 10×7 Summerhouse

The first thing I would decide is how you genuinely intend to use the building. A summerhouse for relaxing with a book on pleasant days does not need the same specification as a garden room you intend to work in regularly during winter.

The second consideration is furniture. Mark out approximately ten feet by seven feet on the ground and put the chairs, table, desk or hobby furniture you intend to use inside that space. This simple exercise gives you a much better understanding of how the finished room will work.

The third is the layout. A 7 x 10 summerhouse may use the same nominal dimensions, but changing the frontage, doors and windows can completely alter how the room feels and where furniture can be positioned.

Most importantly, buy the specification you actually require. Paying for insulation you will never use is unnecessary, while choosing too lightly for regular colder-weather use can prove equally disappointing.

Frequently Asked Questions About 10×7 Summerhouses

How big is a 10ft x 7ft summer house?

A 10ft x 7ft summer house has a nominal footprint of approximately 70 square feet, around 6.5 square metres or roughly 3.0m x 2.1m. Always use the exact product and base measurements supplied for your chosen building rather than relying solely on the nominal size.

Is a 10×7 summerhouse the same as a 7 x 10 summerhouse?

The same nominal measurements are being described, but frontage, door position and window arrangement can differ. Always check the individual product drawing and exact dimensions before ordering or preparing your base.

What can I fit inside a 10×7 summerhouse?

A 10×7 summerhouse can normally accommodate comfortable seating and a table with additional room for shelving, hobby equipment or a compact workspace. Its seven-foot depth provides useful flexibility when arranging furniture.

Can a 10ft by 7ft summer house be insulated?

Yes. Both Platinum Winchester models currently offer a full insulation option. If regular colder-weather use matters to you, compare the full wall, floor, roof, glazing and insulation specification before ordering.

Can a 10×7 summerhouse be used as a garden office?

Yes. The footprint is large enough for a desk, office chair and storage. Still, for regular year-round use, I would pay particular attention to insulation, glazing, heating, and ventilation rather than choosing based on dimensions alone.

Can a 10×7 summerhouse be made bespoke?

Yes. Suitable Diamond buildings offer bespoke options, including changes to doors, windows, dimensions, and other design details. This can be particularly useful if you already have a specific furniture layout in mind.

Is fitting included with a 10ft x 7ft summer house?

Professional fitting, installation or assembly is included across the six Diamond and Platinum summerhouses currently shown in this category, subject to the individual product, delivery area, suitable access and correct base requirements. Always check the precise terms applying to your chosen building.

Do I need planning permission for a 10×7 summerhouse?

Many garden summerhouses can be installed under permitted development rights, but the rules depend on factors including the property, building height, position and proximity to boundaries. Listed properties, designated land and other circumstances may have additional requirements, so check the current rules applying to your property with the relevant local planning authority when necessary.

My Final Advice on Choosing a 10×7 Summerhouse

A 10ft by 7ft summer house provides enough room to create a genuinely useful garden retreat while remaining manageable in many gardens. Start with how you intend to use the room, then compare the Diamond and Platinum designs, furniture space, insulation options and overall construction.

After working with garden buildings since 1979, my advice remains to look beyond photographs and headline prices. Compare the timber, framing, floor, roof, doors, glazing, and insulation (where applicable), and the complete specification, and choose the building that best suits how you genuinely intend to use it.

If possible, visit our Surrey display site to compare representative buildings in person. If you cannot visit, contact us and explain what you need. Craig, the team and I would much rather help you choose the correct building and specification before you buy.
