Black garden games room with double doors and large windows. Modern outdoor building.

6m x 5m Garden Room Offices

A 6m x 5m garden room gives you around 30 square metres of nominal space for home working, hobbies, exercise or creating a substantial multi-purpose room away from the house. At this scale there can be room for several workstations, generous storage, seating and separate working or leisure areas within the same building.

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, and I’ve worked with garden buildings since starting Marina Sheds in 1979. Together with my son Craig, who studied carpentry at Guildford College, we use that experience to help customers compare actual dimensions, construction, insulation, glazing and layout before making a substantial purchase.

If you genuinely need a building close to 6m x 5m, our Platinum Winchester range is particularly relevant because it offers substantially greater size and bespoke flexibility than our smaller Platinum models. Browse the options below or explore our complete garden rooms and garden offices range.

How Much Space Does a 6m x 5m Garden Room Provide?

A true 6m x 5m garden room has a nominal footprint of around 30 square metres, approximately 20ft x 16ft. That is a substantial amount of space and provides far more flexibility than a conventional compact garden office.

The finished internal dimensions will be smaller because of framing, insulation and internal lining. It is also important to understand that the current garden rooms shown within this category do not all measure exactly 6m x 5m, so always check the individual product dimensions before arranging furniture or preparing the base.

Is a 6m x 5m Garden Room Suitable for a Large Home Office?

Yes. A 6m x 5m garden office, or a building close to that footprint, can provide a substantial professional workspace for several people. There can be room for multiple desks, office chairs, storage, printers and a separate meeting or seating area while still retaining comfortable circulation space.

With a room of this scale, I recommend planning the furniture before finalising the doors and windows. Think about computer screens, natural light, electrical sockets, internet equipment, cupboards and how people will move through the room. A large office still benefits enormously from a carefully planned layout.

Can Several People Work in a 5m x 6m Office?

Yes. A 5m x 6m office provides the same nominal 30 square metre footprint as a 6m x 5m room, although the building’s orientation will affect how the internal space works. Two people can have extremely generous workstations, while three or more desks may also be practical depending on their size and the amount of storage required.

Do not judge capacity purely by the number of square metres. Large desks, chairs, monitors, cupboards and meeting furniture can occupy space surprisingly quickly, so measure the equipment you genuinely intend to use.

6m x 5m or 5m x 6m Garden Room – Is There a Difference?

The descriptions 6m x 5m garden room and 5m x 6m garden room describe the same nominal floor area, but the orientation matters. The position of the longer side, entrance, glazing and roof can affect how the building sits within your garden and how furniture can be arranged inside.

Always check the individual product drawings rather than relying only on the size description. In a large room, changing the position of doors or windows can substantially improve the finished layout, and selected ranges allow you to alter these details.

Does Every Garden Room on This Page Measure Exactly 6m x 5m?

No, and this is particularly important on this page. The 6m x 5m category brings together large garden rooms that may suit customers looking for something around this scale, but the individual products have different maximum dimensions.

Platinum Fleet, Odiham and Kingclere currently extend to approximately 4.8m x 3.6m, so they are substantially smaller than a true 6m x 5m building. They may still be excellent garden rooms, but they should not be confused with a literal thirty-square-metre room.

Platinum Winchester Apex, Winchester Pent and Winchester Transverse extend to approximately 8.4m x 4.8m and are therefore the current designs I would look at first if you genuinely need a large garden room approaching a 6m x 5m footprint.

Which Range Should I Consider for a Garden Room Around 6m x 5m?

If getting close to the full dimensions is important, I would concentrate particularly on our Platinum Winchester range. Winchester offers considerably greater size flexibility than Fleet, Odiham or Kingclere and is available with apex, pent and transverse configurations.

The maximum listed depth is approximately 4.8m rather than a literal five metres, so if the available garden space or planning requirements mean you need very precise dimensions, discuss them with us before arranging the foundation.

Should a Large 6m x 5m Garden Room Be Insulated?

If you intend to use a room of this size regularly throughout the year, I would strongly consider insulation. However, I would never choose a garden room simply because the word “insulated” appears in the description. Compare exactly what is included in the walls, floor and roof together with the doors, glazing and internal finish.

Fleet and Odiham are fully insulated Platinum models, but their available dimensions are considerably smaller than a true 6m x 5m footprint. For a genuinely large room approaching this size, Platinum Winchester is more relevant and can be specified with a full insulation and internal lining package. You can compare the wider choices on our insulated garden rooms and offices page.

My Garden Building Experience Since 1979

I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my own garden building business in 1979, trading as Marina Sheds. In those early years I made garden buildings, sold them, delivered them and dealt directly with customers, so I learnt to judge buildings by their construction and suitability rather than simply how attractive they looked in photographs.

I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money I was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but it did not end my involvement with garden buildings.

By 1992 we had expanded beyond traditional sheds to include summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins, and that broader direction led to the name Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his practical carpentry knowledge into the family business.

We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and in 2000 formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Rather than being restricted to one manufacturer’s products, Craig and I wanted to use our experience to select quality garden buildings from different manufacturers and give customers a genuine choice. Craig now runs the day-to-day business, and I continue to support him and the team whenever required.

Why Experience Matters on a Garden Room This Large

After working with garden buildings since 1979, I’ve learnt that two large rooms can appear very similar online while differing considerably when you compare the framing, cladding, flooring, roof, glazing, insulation, doors and internal finish.

A room around thirty square metres is a substantial purchase. The largest or most expensive option is not automatically the best choice. The important thing is deciding how you will use the room, how frequently it will be occupied and what furniture or equipment it needs to contain, then choosing the size and specification accordingly.

Why the Large Rectangular Layout Works Well

A large rectangular garden room can work particularly well when you want distinct activity zones. Desks can occupy one end while seating, meeting space, exercise equipment or hobby areas use the other, giving the room more than one purpose without necessarily needing permanent internal walls.

The proportions also allow useful stretches of wall for storage and furniture. Plan these areas before deciding where to position doors and windows so you don’t lose valuable wall space.

5m x 5m or 6m x 5m Garden Room?

A true 6m x 5m footprint gives around 30 square metres compared with approximately 25 square metres for 5m x 5m. The additional five square metres comes from another metre of length and can be useful for extra workstations, more storage or clearer separation between office and leisure areas.

If you do not genuinely need that additional length, a 5m x 5m garden room or office already represents a very substantial amount of space and may make better use of your garden and budget.

6m x 4m or 6m x 5m Garden Room?

A true 6m x 5m footprint provides around 30 square metres compared with approximately 24 square metres for 6m x 4m. The additional six square metres is significant and can make sense where you need several workstations, a substantial meeting area or distinct working and leisure zones.

If keeping the building shallower in the garden matters, compare our 6m x 4m garden rooms and offices before deciding whether the extra depth is genuinely useful.

Can a Large Garden Room Include Separate Storage?

Selected bespoke garden room ranges can incorporate an additional storage section or separate room. On a large building, this can be particularly useful, keeping bicycles, garden equipment, or tools away from a clean office, studio, or leisure space.

If separate storage matters, discuss it before ordering so the internal division, doors, windows and overall dimensions can be designed around both uses from the beginning.

Preparing the Base for a Large Garden Room

A large garden room needs a firm, flat and level foundation suitable for the exact building. Do not arrange a base using the nominal 6m x 5m category title because the products shown on this page vary considerably in their actual dimensions.

Always work from the manufacturer’s precise measurements for the building you order and confirm the foundation requirements before construction begins.

Think About Access Before Ordering

Access deserves careful consideration with a garden room of this scale. Consider gates, side passages, walls, steps, parking, and the route the building components will need to take from the delivery vehicle to the installation position.

If access is restricted or unusual, tell us before ordering. It is much better to identify a potential installation issue during the planning stage than when a substantial garden room is due to be assembled.

See Large Garden Rooms Before You Buy

Even after more than four decades around garden buildings, I still recommend seeing them in person whenever practical. With a substantial room, viewing representative buildings can help you understand the scale, construction and differences between specifications far better than photographs alone.

You can visit our Surrey display site at Sutton Green Garden Centre, Whitmoor Lane, Sutton Green, Guildford, GU4 7QA. We cannot display every model in every size, so please get in touch with us before making a special journey if there is a particular Platinum Winchester garden room you want to inspect.

6m x 5m Garden Rooms – Frequently Asked Questions

How big is a 6m x 5m garden room?

A true 6m x 5m footprint covers approximately 30 square metres, roughly 20ft x 16ft. Exact external and finished internal dimensions vary by model, so always check the product specification before ordering.

Does every garden room on this page measure exactly 6m x 5m?

No. Fleet, Odiham and Kingclere currently extend to approximately 4.8m x 3.6m, while Winchester extends substantially larger to approximately 8.4m x 4.8m. If you specifically want a building approaching 6m x 5m, compare the actual Winchester dimensions carefully.

Which range should I consider if I genuinely want close to 6m x 5m?

I would look particularly closely at Platinum Winchester because it offers the broadest current size flexibility. Its maximum listed depth is approximately 4.8m, so confirm the exact dimensions you require before preparing the base.

Can several people work in a 6m x 5m garden office?

Yes. A room approaching this footprint can accommodate several workstations, plus storage and separate meeting or seating space. The final capacity depends on the furniture and equipment you choose.

Can I buy an insulated 6m x 5m garden room?

For a large room approaching this footprint, Platinum Winchester is particularly relevant and can be specified with a full insulation and internal lining package. Fleet and Odiham are fully insulated as standard but are available in significantly smaller maximum dimensions.

Can a 6m x 5m garden room be customised?

Yes, depending on the range. Platinum Winchester is particularly relevant where bespoke dimensions, doors, windows, cladding, insulation and layout flexibility matter. Discuss your exact requirements before arranging the base.

Why choose 1st Choice for a large 6m x 5m garden room?

1st Choice Leisure Buildings is a family business backed by my first-hand garden building experience since 1979 and Craig’s carpentry training and industry experience since 1992. With a substantial room of this scale, that experience helps us explain which products genuinely approach the dimensions you require and advise on specification, insulation, layout and practical installation rather than treating every result as interchangeable.
