DIY vs. Professional Insulation: What’s Best for Your Summerhouse?
Contrary to its name, a summer house is for more than just the summer. With the right insulation, you can enjoy your summer house year-round, feeling secure and content. Insulating your summer house or garden structures makes them usable year-round, ensuring you get more value from your property.
Also, a higher level of insulation can make it more comfortable to use year-round, including in summer, as it helps you regulate temperatures and provides added protection from the elements. Plus, if you are using your summer building in the winter, you can reduce how much energy you use to warm it, thanks to the insulation, which helps conserve heat and keep cold air out of your insulated summer house.
Please consider the pros and cons of each option. Do you do it yourself and potentially save money, or let the experts use their expertise, ensuring complete peace of mind?
Is It Possible To Insulate Summerhouse After Delivery?
If you are handy with DIY projects, you can transform your summerhouse with insulation after delivery. Pick up fibreglass or polystyrene insulation, along with internal cladding such as plywood, hardboard with a stylish veneer, or classic tongue-and-groove panels. To install, cut the insulation to fit snugly between the shed’s timber framing. Polystyrene holds its shape, while fibreglass may need tacks to prevent sagging.
When insulating the shed roof, polystyrene is recommended, as it can be cut slightly oversize and pushed into position, making it self-supporting. It is helpful to have one or two friends assist, as they can hold the roof sheets or tongue-and-groove panels in place while you secure them.
Whether DIY is the best option compared to a professional installing it is for you to decide. Consider if peace of mind is worth the price. More info:-
Will My Insulated Summerhouse Be Cosy In The Winter?
Adding insulation and lining will keep it warmer all year. You will need heating like in your home, but with that it should be nearly as warm. Whether you do it yourself or we do, this is a great option.
For heating, we recommend an electric radiator because it produces dry heat. Do not use a Calor gas heater since it produces moisture and poses a fire risk. Don’t attempt this.
Another benefit of insulation is that the building stays cooler in summer. Few people know this and focus only on keeping it warm. I wasn’t aware of it until I moved from an insulated summer room to an uninsulated one at our display site. I was staggered by the difference.
I even double-checked. This is why it will be a good investment for your shed and a wise decision. You won’t regret it. The insulation option is worth considering.
