Lean-To Sheds | Free Fitting | Bespoke Pent Sheds To Suit You

Garden sheds are one of your garden’s most valuable and versatile parts. You can use them as a simple and secure way to store your tools. You can also use them as a workshop or a
summer house.
But no matter how you use your shed, it’s best to ensure you have a high-quality lean-to-shed. This shed is a classic design that’s popular for a reason. But how can you get a shed perfectly designed for your needs?
Why Go For A Custom Lean-To-Shed
The short answer is to design the shed yourself. A bespoke lean-to shed can be designed to perfectly fit your needs, specifications and garden storage requirements. The process is simple-you share your requirements, we create a design, and once approved, we start building. We understand that everyone has different circumstances.
You might need a shed to fit a specific spot in your garden, which would mean matching the shed’s dimensions to your space. A made to measure lean-to-shed is ideal.
You can also choose a design you like rather than one you have to settle with. For example, if you want a lean-to workshop rather than a shed, you can create a design with a workbench and appropriate storage.
This way, you can get to work immediately without wasting time.
Quality Construction
Another benefit of a 1st Choice pent shed is that you know it’s been built and designed with quality materials and methods. Our sheds are made with redwood deal timber.
Rest assured, our sheds are built to last. We use redwood deal timber, a strong wood that’s perfect for outdoor use and is also visually appealing. We steer clear of any artificial OSB boards that are prone to decay and weather damage, ensuring your shed remains sturdy and reliable.
You can be assured that a shed made to your specifications will look great and last. What other features can you expect?
Optional Features

One of the wonderful things about bespoke lean-to-sheds is the customisable bit. As well as the basic features, including excellent construction and materials, you can tweak the
garden shed design.
While timber looks good on its own, you can also get an optional colour finish on your lean-to-shed. This means you can get a colour that matches your home and garden or spice things up with a different colour entirely.
As expected, we use weather-resistant paint and stains that work well with the redwood deal timber.
You can also get optional insulation for your shed. Again, this is the best option for a workshop. If you intend to spend long days working in your shed, make it as comfortable as possible.
Insulation will keep your shed warm enough to work in, even during the year’s colder months.
Toughened Windows
The windows are one of the first things that can go in a shed. Windows are a great feature; they let in light and make you feel less confined.
Windows are a necessity for a garden shed workshop, but they can break more easily than the rest of the shed.
This is why we use toughened glass windows. Even in wind, rain, or when in contact with errant footballs, the windows are much less likely to break when made with the proper materials.
This makes your shed safer, and you don’t need to spend money on window replacements after every storm.
Before You Buy
Before investing, you need to know what you’re buying. While the whole point of a quality pent shed is that it’s purpose-built, you can see some past examples of our work.
You can visit our showroom twixt Woking, Ripley and Guildford in Surrey for viewing some of our sheds so you get some ideas of how well we work and the types of sheds we can build for you. You might even find some inspiration.
It’s also good to check out what past customers say about our sheds. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic feedback and reviews from previous buyers, and we love working with people who have bought our products before.
If you’re getting a pent shed for your garden, you want something that will last years or even decades. A custom design can suit your needs to the tee, so you’ll never have to replace it. Just look after your shed, and it’s sure to look after you.

Can I get a bespoke lean-to shed built to fit a small or awkward garden space in my garden?
Yes - 1st Choice Leisure Buildings (which operates in the Guildford / Woking / Surrey area) offers made-to-measure (bespoke) garden sheds. They also provide free installation, so you don’t have to worry about building it yourself.
-
Do building regulations apply to a lean-to garden shed?
Usually no, as long as the shed is under 15m² and not used for sleeping accommodation or as a living space. If you plan a larger or more room-like shed, check with building control first.
-
Do I need planning permission to build a lean-to shed in Guildford or around Surrey?
In most cases, you don’t need
planning permission for a lean-to shed, as long as it qualifies under “permitted development.” According to UK planning rules, a garden building can be up to 2.5m high at the eaves if it's within 2m of a boundary. Check with Guildford Borough Council or your local council before building, as local council rules may differ.
-
How much does it cost to have a lean to shed built and installed in Woking and throughout England?
While the exact cost depends on size, materials, and design, you can get a rough idea from local installation costs. For example, a simple 6ft × 4ft shed installation in Woking is estimated to be between £140 and £250 (depending on the installer). For bespoke sheds (made to measure), the cost may be higher — but you get a better fit, quality, and free professional installation if you go with 1st Choice Leisure Buildings.
-
Is insulation important for a lean-to shed if I want to use it as a workspace or studio?
Yes -
insulation is very worthwhile for a shed used as a studio, workshop, or office, as it helps maintain a
comfortable temperature year-round. 1st Choice Leisure Buildings offers optional insulation for its sheds.
-
What is the maximum size of a lean-to shed that doesn’t need planning permission in Surrey?
Based on general permitted development rights, a shed must not exceed around 15m² if you want to avoid standard planning restrictions. Also, your shed shouldn’t take up more than 50% of your garden space (not including the footprint of your house). How close to a boundary can I place a lean-to shed in Woking? If your shed’s eaves height is 2.5m or less, you can usually position it right up to the boundary. 5. If it’s taller (or doesn’t meet permitted development guidelines), you may need to keep at least 2m away from the boundary.
-
What materials are best for lean to sheds to withstand Surrey weather?
Pressure-treated redwood timber is an excellent option. It resists rot and moisture, which is ideal for British (and Surrey) weather. 1st Choice Leisure Buildings uses tanalised timber for durability. For windows, toughened glass is a smart choice as it’s more robust and safer.
