Struggling with cramped garage corners or kitchen table projects? A proper, dedicated workshop changes everything. Our purpose-built timber workshops give you the space, light, and organisation for serious hobbies, projects, and home working.
Built from pressure-treated timber or dip-treated redwood timber that effortlessly handles the relentless British weather, our workshops range from compact 6×4 starter spaces to huge 28×16 professional setups.
Every timber workshop includes free installation across most of the UK. Our delivery and installation team handles the heavy lifting while you plan your first project.
Just choose your cladding style, pick the roof type, and add windows where you need them. We build each workshop to order, meaning door positions, window placement, and even internal layouts meet your vision.
Family-run since 1979, we know what makes a timber workshop work, and we are proud to present this popular, curated range!
When treated properly, quality timber outlasts alternatives by decades. Our pressure-treated timber resists rot, insects, and weather damage from day one. The treatment penetrates deep into wood fibres, not just mere surface protection. With basic care, these timber workshops stay solid and dependable for many decades to come. When we say built to last, we mean it.
Metal sheds look industrial, while plastic ones are an eyesore. A timber workshop sits naturally in any garden, ageing gracefully into its surroundings. Wood grain adds character that manufactured materials can’t compete with. Paint it to complement your house, or let the beautiful natural timber earn a rustic weathered look over time. Either way, they look great.
A timber workshop insulates naturally, staying cooler in summer and warmer in winter compared to metal.
Add optional insulation, and you have year-round comfort without massive heating bills. The timber structure breathes, reducing
condensation problems that tend to plague metal buildings.
Timber takes modifications brilliantly. If you need shelving, just drill straight in, while electrical sockets are a doddle for electricians to install. The walls of a well-built timber workshop like ours can easily handle heavy tools. With various paint colours, window positions, and door styles available, timber workshops look great in any garden or yard.
With a bit of planning, timber workshops can serve all kinds of useful purposes. Here are a few ideas:
Potting Shed Room for benches, gardening tools, and storage—great for planting, potting, and seed starting.
Bike Repairs
Wall space for hanging tools and storing parts, plus room to work on bikes comfortably.
Music Room
Concrete floors are able to handle heavy machinery, with wall strength that supports tool racking.
Woodworking Projects
Plenty of space for timber, sawhorses, tools, and ventilation for sanding or cutting.
Art Studios
Natural light and airflow create the perfect setup for painting, sketching, or other creative work.
>Home Office Timber helps with sound dampening for practising, recording, or just enjoying your instruments.
Unlike mass-produced workshops available at the local large DIY retailer, we use properly graded softwood (usually Scandinavian redwood or quality spruce). We believe that density is important for strength and long life. Every piece gets pressure treatment or dip-treated before assembly, protecting your timber workshop from the inside out.
- Shiplap: Interlocking boards create weather tight walls while maintaining a classic workshop look. Water runs off without finding gaps.
- Tongue & Groove: This material has stronger interlocking than shiplap, and thicker boards feel more substantial. The smooth internal face makes lining easier if insulation is added later.
- Loglap: Gives a chunky, cabin-style appearance that some prefer. Still interlocks properly for weather protection.
The frame carries everything, including the roof load, wall cladding, and your tools. So, we use hefty 2×2-inch or 3×1½-inch framing (nominal) at proper centres, and suitable bracing to prevent racking.
- Floor: Heavy-duty tongue-and-groove or solid caber board flooring handles workshop traffic. It is thicker than standard shed floors because dropped tools demand it. Pressure-treated bearers underneath prevent ground moisture rot.
- Roof: Apex roofs give maximum headroom, which is perfect for tall projects. Pent roofs work against boundaries where planning rules apply. Either way, both use proper roofing felt with optional EPDM rubber upgrades or Onduline on Platinum workshops.
- Wide Double Doors: Standard from 8ft width upwards for proper material access. Heavy-duty hinges won’t sag.
- Security: Multi-point locking keeps tools safe. Reinforced frames resist forcing. Optional window bars for high-value contents.
- Windows: Fixed or opened, positioned where needed. Toughened glass comes standard (safer when moving timber around).
Workshops need airflow for paint fumes, sawdust, and general moisture. Our Platinum workshop designs include positioned vents that create a through-flow without workspace draughts.
Here’s a quick pro tip for you: start with your current needs, then add 25%. In our experience, every workshop owner wishes they’d gone bigger!
That aside, an 8×6 suits basic DIY, but you can step up to 10×8 to include a proper workbench plus plenty of storage. The popular 12×10 gives room for furniture-sized projects. Also, consider access. Double doors from 8ft widths make life so much easier.
Getting the base level is really important. Concrete is ideal, although paving slabs can work, and timber frame bases are usually fine. Either way, the base must match the timber workshop footprint.
Our installation teams have built hundreds. Free in most areas, they handle sloped gardens and tight access. However, the actual area where your new workshop is going must be level. You must inform us of any tight access issues before delivery. Professional installation means it’s done right.
With free installation and free delivery (in most areas), we have delivered and built hundreds of timber workshops over the 40+ years we have been in business. Our installation team is experienced and can usually complete the job in under one day.
Our initial pressure treatment on our Platinum workshops lasts for years, but annual retreatment keeps everything in great shape for decades. All it takes is one coat (usually applied in a single morning), but it adds many years to the life of our timber workshops. Diamond workshops are dip treated.
- Regular timber workshop maintenance takes minutes but prevents major issues. Every month or two, consider:
- Clearing gutters of leaves and debris
- Checking the roof felt for tears or lifting edges
- Oiling the door hinges to prevent squeaking
- Look for any signs of water ingress
- Ensure vents remain unblocked
We have refined our timber workshop designs over the decades. You would be forgiven for assuming these are merely ‘renamed sheds’, but they are so much more than that. These are proper, purpose-built workshops with reinforced floors, security options, and practical layouts.
Built in Yorkshire and Northamptonshire by people who are highly experienced at working with quality timber, the difference between our timber workshops and cheap, wholesale imports is obvious.
