Recently our installers were in Guildford to build our customer's Trentan 5.2m x 3.7m x 44mm Brookwood log cabin. They also laid the cabin's heavy duty timber subframe base and included roof and floor insulation, an extra single window, guttering and laminate flooring to the cabin. Last week our installers were in Rochester to build one of our Humber Rochester apex log cabins! The size is 4.6m x 4m x 44mm with an EPDM rubber roof and PVCu windows and door frames in Anthracite Grey. Our installers also laid the cabin's timber over base, included roof and floor insulation, gutters and laminate floor in Tawney Chestnut. The customer also purchased their Demidekk Cleantech paint in Fog Mist from ourselves and our painter will visit soon to paint the cabin.
Last week our installers were in Guildford to build one of our Humber Tonbridge pent log cabins. The size is 5.8m x 2.8m x 44mm with an EPDM rubber roof and PVCu windows and door frames in Anthracite Grey with an additional side window included. Our installers also laid the cabin's heavy duty timber subframe base, included roof and floor insulation and laminate floor in Tawny Chestnut. The customer also purchased their Demidekk Cleantech paint in French Grey from ourselves and our painter will visit soon to paint the cabin. And then our electrician will visit to fit the electrics.
Recently our hard working installers were in Guildford to build our customer's Humber 4.6m x 2.8m x 44mm Tonbridge pent log cabin. We also laid the cabin's heavy duty timber subframe base and the cabin came with Anthracite Grey PVCu windows and door frames and an EPDM rubber roof. We included roof and floor insulation, guttering and laminate floor in Chestnut Oak. The customer also purchased their Demidekk Cleantech paint from ourselves and our painter will visit shortly to paint the cabin. Recently our installers were in Merton to build our customer's Trentan 3.3m x 2.4m x 44mm Bagshot Mini log cabin. We included guttering, roof and floor insulation and the long lasting EPDM rubber roofing for the cabin together with an extra window and upgraded door handle. The customer purchased their Demidekk Cleantech paint from ourselves and our painter will visit shortly to paint the cabin 🙂

What Is a Pent Roof Log Cabin?
A pent roof log cabin has one continuous roof plane that falls from a higher side to a lower side rather than two slopes meeting at a central ridge. This gives the cabin the clean, contemporary appearance many customers prefer and also creates a predictable direction for rainwater run-off. Pent cabins are sometimes called flat roof log cabins, but that description is not technically exact because the roof needs a fall to shed water. The simple roof profile can work particularly well for garden offices, studios and modern landscaped gardens where a lower visual roofline is preferred.
Why Choose a Pent Log Cabin?
A pent design is worth considering if you prefer contemporary straight lines, want a less visually dominant roof or like knowing which side of the cabin will receive most of the roof water. The single roof plane can also provide useful vertical wall space for desks, shelving, cupboards or equipment. I wouldn’t choose a pent cabin based on appearance alone, though. Think about which direction the roof slopes, where water will discharge, the position of doors and windows and how the internal space will be furnished before settling on the final model.
My Advice When Choosing a Pent Garden Cabin
After working with timber garden buildings since 1979, one lesson I have learnt is that you can overlook roof direction until the building is already in place. Before choosing your cabin, check which side is lower and think about what is beside it. A fence, narrow path, flower bed or seating area may not be the best place for roof water to discharge. Then plan your furniture and compare the wall construction, glazing, floor, roof, base and insulation. I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money due from the sale. Check Which Way the Roof Slopes
The direction of the roof fall matters because most rainwater will naturally move towards the lower side. Check whether that side faces a fence, pathway, neighbour, flower bed or area where you regularly sit. Planning this before installation can make the finished position much more practical.
Check the Overall Height
A pent roof often appears lower-profile than a traditional apex roof, but do not assume every pent cabin is low. Check both the highest and lowest roof measurements of the individual model, particularly if the building will stand close to a boundary or where height could affect its position. Plan the Doors, Windows and Furniture
Door and window positions can make a major difference to the usable internal layout. Before choosing the cabin, think about where desks, cupboards, sofas, shelving, or exercise equipment will go. Additional glazing can provide useful natural light, but it also removes wall space that could otherwise be used for furniture or storage.
Prepare a Firm and Level Base
A pent log cabin needs a firm, stable and level foundation suitable for the individual building and ground conditions. A poor base can affect the structure and the operation of doors and windows.
