A prefab shed is manufactured in sections before it reaches your garden, with the wall panels, doors, windows and roof prepared in advance and then assembled on your prepared base. This gives you the convenience of a largely pre-made building without limiting you to a basic flat-pack design.

Is a Prefab Shed the Same as a Ready Built Shed?
Not quite. People often search for a ready-built shed when what they really want is a building that doesn’t require them to cut timber and build everything themselves. Our timber prefab sheds are manufactured as substantial sections beforehand, and the relevant models are professionally fitted or assembled at your property, subject to delivery and access conditions.
That means you gain much of the convenience people associate with a ready-built shed, but the building can still be transported into a normal garden and assembled correctly on site. A fully assembled shed arriving in one piece often creates major access problems through gates and side passages.
Choosing the Right Prefab Shed
Which Prefab Shed Should I Choose?
If your main requirement is practical storage and flexibility, the Diamond Chichester Apex, Chichester Pent and Woodgate Reverse Apex are sensible places to start. Chichester extends from 4×4 to 24×12 and offers professional fitting, colour finishes, configurable doors and windows and bespoke options.
The Sapphire Swanwick and Cadnam buildings are displayed in apex, pent and reverse-apex layouts. The Sapphire Swanwick Apex, for example, offers professional fitting, colour-finish choices and a full-insulation option, making Sapphire particularly relevant if you want a compact or medium-sized building with a higher specification.
For larger requirements, compare the Fareham Apex, Fareham Pent and Fareham Reverse Apex together with the Southampton Apex, Pent and Transverse and Portsmouth Apex. These ranges extend to 20×16 and offer professional assembly, colour-finish and full-insulation options.
If you need substantially more space, the Diamond Barnham Apex and Barnham Pent extend to 28×12, while the Winchester Apex, Pent and Transverse range extends to 28×16. Diamond, Sapphire or Platinum – Which Is Best?
I don’t believe there is one best range for everyone. Diamond is a strong choice when value, size, and flexibility matter. Sapphire is worth comparing when you want a relatively compact pressure-treated building with insulation available. Fareham, Southampton and Portsmouth suit customers needing more substantial storage or working space, while Winchester becomes especially relevant when maximum size and a higher specification matter.
I would choose based on what you will actually use, rather than automatically buying the cheapest or most expensive building. Paying for insulation in a straightforward mower store may achieve little, while choosing too basic a specification for a building you intend to spend hours in may prove a false economy.

What Can a Prefab Shed Be Used For?
The prefab sheds currently shown cover everything from everyday storage for tools, bicycles and garden machinery through to larger buildings suitable for DIY, hobbies and workshop-style use. The right size depends on your equipment and how much clear working space you need.
I recommend planning the interior before choosing the shed. Measure machinery, bicycles, shelving and workbenches and decide where the doors and windows need to be. A well-planned building is nearly always more useful than simply buying the largest shed the garden will accommodate.
Can a Prefab Shed Be Insulated?
Yes. Several products on this page offer full-insulation options, including the Sapphire Swanwick and Cadnam ranges and the Fareham, Southampton, Portsmouth and Winchester buildings. If insulation is an important requirement, you can compare our dedicated insulated sheds range.
If your prefab shed will mainly store garden tools and machinery, insulation may be unnecessary. Decide first how often you will spend time inside, then choose the right specification rather than adding options automatically.

Professional fitting or assembly is included with the relevant timber prefab sheds displayed here, subject to the individual manufacturer’s delivery area, suitable access and a correctly prepared base ready before installation. Conditions vary by product, so always check the specific building before ordering.
You will still need a firm and level foundation. Even a well-made prefab building relies on a suitable base for proper alignment, smooth door operation, and long-term performance.
What Should I Check When Comparing Prefab Sheds?
After many years in this business, I would never compare prefab sheds by photograph and headline price alone. Look at the framing, cladding, floor, roof, doors, glazing and treatment, and check whether professional installation is included or costs extra.
The Diamond Chichester, for example, uses tongue-and-groove timber construction, substantial framing, toughened glass and configurable doors and windows. Other ranges shown here have different pressure-treated timber, insulation, and size options. The word prefab describes how a building is manufactured; it does not tell you whether one shed is better made than another. Prefab Shed Experience Since 1979
My Experience With Prefab Sheds Goes Back to 1979
I’m Robin Antill, founder of 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. I left school at 15 and started my own business in 1979 trading as Marina Sheds. I learnt the trade hands-on by making and selling sheds, delivering buildings and dealing directly with customers, so my understanding of prefabricated timber buildings began with manufacturing experience rather than simply selling products online.
I sold Marina Sheds in 1990, although unfortunately I did not receive all the money which was due from the sale. It was a difficult business lesson, but I stayed in the garden-building industry and carried on.
In 1992 we expanded beyond sheds and added summerhouses, garages, garden rooms and log cabins. As the business had moved far beyond Marina Sheds, that wider direction led to the name Titan Garden Buildings. My son Craig joined me in 1992 after studying carpentry at Guildford College from 1990, bringing his own practical carpentry and timber-construction knowledge into the business.
We sold Titan Garden Buildings in 1998 and in 2000 formed 1st Choice Leisure Buildings. Rather than being tied to products from one manufacturer, Craig and I wanted to use our experience to compare quality buildings from different established manufacturers and give customers a genuine choice.

Why Does My Experience Matter When Choosing a Prefab Shed?
Having manufactured sheds myself, I look beyond the term prefab shed. I want to know how the frame is made, what timber is used, how substantial the floor and roof are, what sort of doors and glazing are fitted and how the building will be installed.
That is also why we sell different ranges. If Diamond gives you everything you need, there is little point paying for a higher specification. If you want insulation, pressure-treated construction or considerably more working space, one of the Sapphire, Fareham, Southampton, Portsmouth or Winchester buildings may be more appropriate. I aim to help you buy the specification you will actually use.

Can I See Prefab Sheds Before Buying?
Whenever practical, I strongly recommend seeing garden buildings before making a final decision. You can visit our Surrey garden building display site at Sutton Green, between Guildford, Woking and Ripley, where around 80 representative buildings are normally available to inspect and compare.
Photographs and specifications are useful, but standing inside a building lets you judge the floor, doors, timber, headroom and overall construction for yourself. I started selling sheds in 1979 and still believe that seeing the product and understanding its specification are two of the best ways to make an informed decision.

Start with what you need to store or do inside the building, then decide the size, roof style, doors, windows and whether insulation is worthwhile. After that, compare the construction and installation arrangements rather than choosing based on price alone.
