All of our wooden sheds are made from redwood deal (not cheap whitewood) on 2×2 (at least) vertical framing. Available in sizes from 4×3 right up to 28×14. Bespoke designs available. Wooden sheds are delivered and assembled FREE of charge subject to delivery restrictions. Toughened glass as standard. Base building service and other options. VIEW at our shed display site, near Guildford, Woking and Ripley in Surrey.

  • Do building regulations apply to wooden sheds in Guildford / Surrey?
    Most small wooden garden sheds (under 15m²) used for storage or hobbies are not covered by building regulations. 8. But if you’re installing electrics or plumbing, or turning the shed into a living space (e.g., an office or bedroom), building regulations may apply.
  • Do I need planning permission for a wooden garden shed in Surrey (Guildford / Woking)?
    You usually don’t need planning permission if your shed qualifies as “permitted development.” This generally means it’s single-storey, only for domestic use (not sleeping), doesn’t exceed height limits (e.g., eaves under 2.5m within 2m of boundary), and covers less than half of your garden. However, local councils sometimes impose stricter rules (especially in conservation areas), so it's always wise to check with the planning department at Guildford Borough Council, Woking Borough Council or your local council.
  • What height can a wooden shed be in Surrey before I need planning permission?
    If your shed is within 2m of the boundary, the maximum allowed height is about 2.5m to the ridge. For a dual-pitched roof, and if the shed is further from the boundary, the height can reach around 4m (depending on local rules).
  • What is the maximum size of a shed I can build in my garden in Guildford without planning permission?
    The maximum standard shed size allowed without planning permission is generally 15m² under permitted development rules. In addition, your shed must not cover more than 50% of your garden area (excluding your house’s footprint).
  • What types of foundations or bases do I need for a wooden shed in Surrey?
    A solid, level base is essential for shed durability - common options are concrete slabs, timber bearers or pads. While planners rarely dictate the type of base, a proper foundation prevents damp and structural issues and extends the life of the structure.
  • Where should I locate my shed in my garden to comply with local council rules?
    Permitted development rules require that sheds are not placed in front of your property’s principal elevation (so, not forward of the main wall of your house). Also, leave a maintenance gap (about 30cm) between the shed and the boundary for protection.
