How To Keep Cool In Your Woodpro Log Cabin During The Summer
Spending time in the garden is one of the simplest pleasures of summer, but if you live in a location where it gets really hot and humid when summertime rolls around, it can be pretty uncomfortable out there for you and very problematic for your plants and flowers, to say the least. The good news is that it doesn’t have to be that way.It is possible to make your garden quite a bit cooler so that you can enjoy it, and so that it will stay alive and healthy, when the heat beats down.
Here are some fairly simple things you can do to keep the garden cool come summer:
Water Regularly (But Not Too Often)
If you love being surrounded by lush green plants and beautiful blooming flowers when you’re in the garden or summer house, the most important thing you can do during the summer months is to water your plants, flowers, and lawn more regularly. Under watering your plants will mean that they succumb to the heat and become very brown and dead very fast. That being said, you should not over water them either because that will kill them too.
Ideally, you should water your plants and flowers whenever the soil starts to dry out, which could every day if it’s really hot – it’s also worth looking up the summer watering requirements of the species you have in your garden for an even better idea, and you should fully water your lawn to the point that the water sinks deep into the soil at least twice per week. If you have a sprinkler system, that will make the job so much easier for you, but watering with a can will do just fine.
If you have plants and flowers in pots, adding a few inches of mulch on top of the soil will help to keep it moist when the temperature is high, and this will help to keep things cool. You should probably also move your containers to a more shaded area during the afternoon when the sun is at its peak so that they won’t be affected.
Planting mature trees will not only make your garden look even prettier, but it will also provide you and your plants and flowers with more shade. If your garden is generally pretty exposed to the sunlight, this will really make a difference because providing your plant them strategically, you will always have a shady spot to retreat to.
Install a Patio Cover
Patio covers are typically wooden structures that basically give you a roof over your patio area. If you do have a patio, and you love to sit there – they are the perfect places to put tables and chairs – having a cover will mean that you don’t get the full force of the sun beating down on you, for a much more comfortable time in the garden., As well as being great for keeping things cool, patio covers also help to prevent UV damage to your patio and they enable you to use your patio for more of the year, not just in the summer.
Ventilate Your Greenhouse
If you have a greenhouse, you’ll know that they can get pretty hot in the summer and that can be bad news for whatever you’re growing in there, and it can make it pretty impossible for you to spend any length of time in there. That’s why it’s always a good idea to ensure that your greenhouse is ventilated using side vents and roof vents. Even just opening the door will make a huge difference. However, it temperatures reach more than 81°F, you may want to take some of your more vulnerable plants out of the greenhouse and put them in the shade, just to be safe. Bear in mind the same thing with your potting shed in your garden.
Get a Pool
Of course, the ultimate way for you to stay cool in the garden this summer is installing a pool. If you have the space and you love the water, installing a pool in the garden will mean that you can take a refreshing dip whenever you feel like it. Just bear in mind that pools require a fair amount of maintenance and you need to be prepared to do this/pay someone else to do it if you want it to stay in good condition and be usable whenever you feel like it.
Keeping the garden (and yourself in your garden cabin) cool in the summer is no mean feat, but with a little thought and effort, as you can see, it is possible, and it does make your garden a much more enjoyable place to be.
