Choosing the Right Log Cabin
Which Log Cabin Is Right for Your Garden?
Choose a garden log cabin around its intended use, the usable space you need and your total project budget. A cabin for summer relaxation has different requirements from an office used every working day. Start with your furniture and activities, then compare the layout, construction, glazing, insulation and installation options.
Our Trentan and Humber log cabins offer different designs and specifications. Compare the complete package: a lower starting price may exclude upgrades or services you need. Our log cabin buyer’s guide explains what to check before ordering.
If you need separate areas for work, hobbies or storage, explore our multi-room log cabins. Visit our Surrey showroom near Guildford and Woking to compare buildings in person. Contact us before travelling if you want to see a particular model.
44mm or 70mm Log Cabins
44mm or 70mm Log Cabins?
A 44mm log cabin can suit leisure, hobbies and office use, depending on the complete specification and how often you occupy it. Our 70mm log cabins offer thicker timber walls, but wall thickness alone doesn’t guarantee winter comfort. Consider the insulation, glazing, heating and ventilation together.

Confirm your postcode and final specification before ordering.
Insulation and Year-Round Use
Insulated Log Cabins for Year-Round Use
A log cabin can be specified for regular use throughout the year, but insulation does not heat the building. Winter comfort depends on reducing heat loss and providing suitable heating, alongside ventilation to manage moisture.
Our optional roof and floor insulation packages improve these parts of the building. They do not include additional wall insulation. Ask us to confirm the insulation material, thickness, areas covered and fitting arrangements for your chosen cabin.
For an office or studio occupied for several hours each day, plan heating, electrical supply and ventilation before installation. Read our guide to insulated log cabins or browse our insulated log cabin options to compare suitable specifications.
Offices, Gyms, Hobbies and Relaxing
Garden Log Cabins for Offices, Gyms, Hobbies and Relaxing
Plan the room from the inside out. The placement of doors, windows, and furniture affects how much floor space you can use comfortably.
Log Cabins for Home Offices
Allow space for your desk, chair movement, storage and any additional workstation. Consider sunlight on screens, privacy, internet access, sockets and winter heating. Tell us whether the office will be used occasionally or throughout the working week so we can help you compare the appropriate options.
Garden Cabins for Gyms and Hobbies
Measure equipment in use, including clearance around treadmills, benches and exercise machines. Check usable headroom for overhead movements. Before ordering, give us the equipment weights and explain any weightlifting or impact activities so the floor and supporting base can be assessed for your intended use.
For a workshop or studio, include workbench depth, shelving, lighting and access for bringing materials inside. Confirm equipment fit and floor suitability separately.
Garden Log Cabins for Relaxing and Entertaining
Consider seating, the garden outlook and the connection to a patio or deck. Allow clear routes around furniture and through the doors. A carefully arranged smaller cabin may provide everything you need while leaving more outdoor space.
Log Cabin Styles and Finishes
Different Styles of Log Cabin
Apex cabins have a traditional pitched roof, while pent log cabins offer a sloping roof and contemporary appearance. Check the overall height and roof overhang of the chosen model when planning its position.
Explore corner log cabins for garden corners or Clockhouse log cabins for a more traditional design. Compare the internal layout and exterior appearance.
Our painted log cabin options let you personalise the finish. Confirm whether your quotation includes paint supplied for you to apply or a professional application service, and which surfaces are covered.
Choosing the Right Cabin Size
What Size Garden Cabin Should I Choose?
Choose the usable internal space needed for your furniture and activities, then check whether the complete building fits your garden. Browse our log cabins by size to shortlist suitable models.
Nominal model dimensions, external wall dimensions and usable internal dimensions are different measurements. Projecting log ends and roof overhangs can extend beyond the walls. Ask for the model drawing showing the required base size, overall footprint, clear internal dimensions and height before preparing the site.
Allow space around the cabin for installation, timber treatment and future maintenance. Check door-opening clearance, nearby trees and drainage. Delivery access also needs assessing separately from the space available for the finished building.

Questions to Ask Before Buying a Log Cabin
How Much Does a Garden Log Cabin Cost?
Our range currently starts from £2,624 for a Trentan Abinger Apex and £5,467 for a Humber Apex. The final cost depends on size, configuration, delivery location and optional services. Request a quotation covering the building, base, assembly, insulation, protective finish and any electrical work you need.
Is a 44mm Log Cabin Thick Enough?
It depends on how you will use it and the complete building specification. Compare the wall, glazing and insulation options in the sections above, and tell us about your intended use before choosing.
Can I Use a Log Cabin All Year Round?
Yes, with a specification appropriate to your activities and the local conditions. Plan insulation, suitable heating and ventilation together. An unheated cabin will still become cold during winter.
What Does the Insulation Package Include?
The available packages cover the roof and floor. Confirm material, thickness and fitting costs for your selected model. Additional wall insulation is not included simply because a cabin has an insulated roof and floor.
Do Log Cabins Need Planning Permission?
Planning requirements depend on your property, location, cabin dimensions and intended use. Check the rules with your local planning authority before ordering, especially if you plan to use it for sleeping accommodation or a change of use. Our log cabin planning guide explains the questions to consider.
What Base Does a Log Cabin Need?
The base must be suitable for the chosen cabin, firm, level and correctly sized. Ground conditions and the intended loads also matter. Confirm the base drawing and installation requirements before starting work; our log cabin base guide explains the preparation involved.
Is Log Cabin Installation Included?
Assembly is an optional paid service for the Trentan and Humber models compared above. Availability depends on postcode, access and a suitable base. The product configurators advertise assembly within 50 miles of Guildford; contact us to confirm your location and a quotation.
Does My Log Cabin Need Treating or Painting?
The timber on the models compared above is supplied untreated, apart from their treated floor supports. Arrange the protective treatment recommended for your chosen cabin and follow the manufacturer’s application and maintenance instructions. Check separately whether a paint package includes materials only or application.
How Long Will a Garden Log Cabin Last?
Its lifespan depends on construction, installation, exposure and maintenance. Inspect the roof, drainage and protective finish regularly, keep vegetation clear and maintain the timber as directed by the manufacturer. Prompt attention to water ingress and damaged coatings helps protect the building.
Help Choosing Your Log Cabin
