Garden shed brewery set to become thriving business

17:01:20 28th January 2010

A new commercial microbrewery operating from a garden shed in Scotland is using locally-sourced ingredients to produce strong cask and bottled ales.

Self-employed risk management specialist John Maddison has set up the part-time Madcap Brewery in Annan with his son Jason, the Dumfries & Galloway Standard reports.

Currently producing four casks at a time, they are hoping that in due course the company will be able to expand and create new jobs for the Annandale area.

The first draft ale, named Annandale Black, was launched in Dumfries' Cavens Arms recently and sold out within three hours, the Standard reports.

Mr Maddison told the news provider: "We are delighted with how well they have been received. Our cask ales will go on sale seasonally and we are working on one for spring called Honey Madness which will use local honey."

The Madcap website states the emphasis will be the production of beers that are "radical in style, strength and flavour", and have a typical alcohol content between seven and 12 per cent.ADNFCR-2655-ID-19584887-ADNFCR
