Garden sheds may power mobility scooters

16:02:20 9th February 2010

Garden sheds at New Zealand housing units may soon receive electricity to power mobility scooters, it has been reported.

The Manawatu Standard reports of plans by the local Community Trust to beautify the front of housing units in a bid to improve the quality of life for its tenants.

Courtyards complete with paving stones, timber-raised gardens and dividing trellis walls are included in the plans, which are subject to funding.

Electricity may also be extended to a number of garden sheds, as those who use mobility scooters are limited as to where they can store and charge them, the news provider reports.

Property manager Albert Dodunski told the Standard that the courtyard enabled residents to have "a little bit of privacy", and an area to sit outside.

"We believe it is important for our residents, who all live alone, to be able to spend some time outside, get some fresh air, and have some private outdoor areas," he said.
