Garden lovers look to RHS Cardiff show

15:04:20 15th April 2010

Many gardening fans will vacate their garden sheds this weekend to attend the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) first major event of the season in Cardiff.

The Chelsea Flower Show convenors attracted exhibitors and visitors from across the country to the Welsh capital for last year's show and 2010's offering is expected to prove just as popular.

One of the exhibitors in 2009 who will be entering a garden this year also, Gaynor Witchard, spoke to the South Wales Echo about her entry, Irene's Garden.

"The meaning of the name Irene is peace, and that's what I'm hoping to achieve in this garden," she told the news provider.

"It's a garden to relax in and reflect on memories gone by."

Visitors to the event will be able to see Irene's Garden for themselves, as well as four others which explore a diverse range of concepts and designs.

School children across the region have been busy working on their entries to the schools wheelbarrow competition, which is now in its fourth year at the show.

It is hoped that the competition will inspire a new generation to dig those tools out of the garden sheds and get on with some gardening.
