Another Arson Attack on a 12X12 Shed
It makes me wonder why our poor garden sheds tend to be at risk at the front of a war between ex-partners trying to score points against each other or at the risk of nearby bonfires. Two men, Raymond Bardsley and Alan Smith who were drunk have appeared in court charged for throwing Smith’s ex-partners 12X12 shed onto a bonfire. The court in Teesside listened about their escapades of the two men who had been out drinking in their local public house in Stockton and Billingham. Robin Turton, the court prosecutor, told the court that Bardsley and Smith had made their way to the garden in Malvern Drive, Billingham, home of Clare Ferguson, who was Smith’s ex-partner. He went on to say that a bonfire had been set up, but Smith and Bardsley threw parts of Miss Ferguson’s shed on top of their bonfire setting light to it. The garden shed had been blown apart by recent high winds so was not a very good state anyway.
Mr Turton continued explaining that Miss Ferguson, having seen the blaze from her window called the fire brigade. The fire was only about 25 metres from her home. Smith was alleged to have admitted that he was just having a fire. Bardsley, who was 24 and from Thornaby, and Smith, aged 36 form Stockton, admitted their guilt in the arson attack.
Brian Mark, who was defending Smith, said that Miss Smith, listening at the court hearing, was concerned about the reasons for this arson case as she and her ex-partner have previously been on good terms and were congenial with each other. This made it even more of a mystery as to why Smith was involved with this crime.
Duncan McReddie, the solicitor acting for Bardsley pleaded that Mr Bardsley had a proper degree of insight into his conduct that day. He claimed that Bardsley was not a pyromaniac and was in fact reckless in adding the 12 x 12 shed to the bonfire which he had already built. This could seem to be a case of too much beer marring his judgement.
Tony Briggs, presiding at Teesside Court judged that a 12 month supervised community order for both men was appropriate with Smith also requiring an added alcohol treatment for those problems.
Whilst the use of alcohol was the driving cause behind this silly story, it seems that the poor garden sheds (hopefully not yours in 12X12 shed) are the butt of many releasing of tension between ex-partners. There’s no logic in this but I suspect that Smith and Bardsley will be a little more careful in future.
Gardens Cruising Around the World
Cruise ship liners have experienced a massive increase in demand over the last 10-15 years and considering the economic gloom is still very popular. Maybe people are deciding to spend their money and enjoy themselves whilst they can rather than worrying about tomorrow. With some of the new cruise ships being launched such as Disney Dream, Celebrity Eclipse, Norwegian Epic and Allure of the Seas ship owners are obviously confident, however after the recent Costa Concordia disaster they may need a rethink. Personally I’ve never been on a cruise as my life has been spent running the family garden shed company tends to keep me busy, however in the not too distant future I need to slow down a little and maybe let my son take over the running of the family shed firm and let me enjoy my garden a little more. He has been involved in the family shed business since 1990 and initially was taught the basics of garden shed making and evolved over the years to where he is today. In fact he started our garden shed web site back in 1996, titan.uk.com, and this was the very first garden shed web site in the UK, quite an achievement.
However, the cruise ships of today are phenomenal as the Oasis of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean, features a massively large 12X12 area of greenery gardens name Central Park, not sure if it is named after Central Park gardens in New York, and which include many varieties of plants. Its irrigation system below decks helps to ensure a regular supply of water. So a floating garden is helping to convert water which is mind blowing.
Two Florida firms were responsible for supplying these garden plants and their massive industrial size sheds were jammed pack full before they could deliver on board . Southeast Growers of Wellington and Michael’s Nursery from Boynton Beach are growers of these garden plants on an industrial scale. They can specialise in the cruise ship market and consequently have to have very large commercial scale sheds during the growing and storing seasons.
12 x 12 Garden Sheds, Workshops and Summerhouses Over 12,000 plants were shipped on board with many of the plants you may see in your own gardens and around your garden sheds or summer buildings but mainly tropical plants, ones you would not normally see in a British garden. These included vegetation from its Caribbean roots, spices, pineapples and coffee plants – just think of those lovely smells and you can imagine a different world, you would not expect this smell in your garden shed normally, maybe if you were dreaming.
Rich Kern, the president of Southeast Growers, said that the scale of this project was very unusual and was something which they had not done before. With this experience under their belt I am sure that they will be repeating this operation over and over again. The Oasis of the Seas was launched in 2009 with its official naming ceremony in November of that year.
