How Gardens and the Gardening Public Improve Great Britain
There are essentially 4 aspects to the campaign – the transformational, economic, social and environmental. All these 4 are as important as each other and are seen as a real positive for the country, for gardeners and for gardens throughout the country. These activities bring communities together as the volunteers clean up their areas and introduce more green areas where they live. Their actions have an incredible impact on their local areas which benefit them and their community.
To be involved is great and quite often the simple garden tools in your shed can help you play a part. With the basic garden tools such as the spade, fork, shears and hoe this can help transform an area near you or even transform your own garden. By your actions you can improve your neighbourhood and make it more pleasant to live in and this is something 1st Choice Leisure Buildings likes to take part in.
In Reading residents were being encouraged to take part in the Reading in Bloom, which is a local gardening competition, which rewards the best looking gardens in their area. This gardening competition was the forerunner to the national Britain in Bloom event which encourages communities, such as towns, cities and villages across the country to display their gardening skills over the summer months.
There were several classes in this Reading gardening competition which include the best residential front gardens under 8×16, or more than 16X8 ft in communal gardens as well as window boxes and on a balcony for homes with only a small patch of earth.
A spokes person from Reading Borough Council said that all types of people can get involved as the whole town can benefit from the superb floral displays which pop up all over the area. They said that businesses and schools were also encouraged to use tools from their garden sheds to help them compete in this gardening competition.
The judging panel, made up from committee members from Reading in Bloom, were also searching for the best allotment. Anyone who lived in the borough of Reading was able to enter with the judging taking place in July.
It’s great that these garden campaigns help to promote a greener community and that just basic tools from the sheds, such as these ones, and a little hard work is all that is needed to take part. Britain in Bloom is a Europe wide campaign, run by RHS. This organisation works all year round to promote a cleaner and greener country by communities working together in unison.
Convert Your 16X8 Shed or Garage & Add Value to Your Home
With Spring on the horizon now is the time to get down into your garden shed and to be brutal, anything which has been in there for more than 2 years is unlikely to be needed. These items should go either to the tip, or onto Recycle.co.uk, where other people or gardeners may be able to make use of them. This is always better that the refuse tip as this helps to save on landfill.
By doing this you are able to create some space to have, maybe, a chair and a little table. This will then give you an opportunity to get away from the house for a few hours and have some ‘me’ time. You will find that this time can take away all sorts of stresses and can improve your mental well being as well. Always a good reason to do this.
Garages also are a good example of outdoor buildings which can be converted for your personal leisure time. Whether the garage is made from timber, concrete or steel does not make any difference however timber garages, similar to these ones from 1st Choice Leisure Buildings, are easier to convert and are available ins sizes from 16X8 an upwards. They are also easier to keep warm and feel more natural in your garden.
A couple in Kent went a little further by buying an old garage, the type which use to do car repairs, and converted it into their family home. Johnna Giles and her husband Bob, who is an architect, have extended the structure and adapted this garage to meet their family requirements over the last 30 years.
The garage was, at first, a three bed roomed house with office space. However, with all the developments it has morphed into a massive size six bedroom house. The beauty of their home now is that it can be turned into two separate houses just by the closing of some internal doors. Perfect for the mother-in-law, I think.
Carriage House, the name given to this converted garage, was bought in an auction in 1977 for just £12,000. Some garden offices today can cost more than that so, clearly, was an amazing bargain.
Johnna initially thought her husband Bob had gone mad but the potential was there to see. The cherry in the deal was the actual location which you can not put a price on. Outside of the property the scenery consists of rolling farmland which they shared with their two daughters, who loved it, whilst growing up in the countryside.
With the original cost of the garage and the first renovations £25,000 was spent during the 1970’s. The cost in doubling the size of the property cost £110,000 in 2003. It’s well established that adding a quality 8×16 garden building will add value to your home but converting a commercial garage into a luxury house is certainly most unusual.
